[SOLVED] DDJ-T1 Mic Issue

Hello,

now that basically everything is working fine - one problem remains - my mic input is not working.

  • The DDJ-T1 has the power supply attached (also the orange rings are glowing).

  • The Aux Input on the back works.

  • The Switch on front of the DDJ-T1 is set to Mic.

  • I played around with the Volume knob left of the mic jacket.

  • When plug in my ipod to the mic input (with very very low volume to not fry anything) I get sound.

Since the Aux on the back is working and the mic jacket with an iPod attached is also working I don't think I have a configuration problem within traktor (I routed the Input to deck D and switched deck D to live input). The fader for deck D is all the way up.

The only three Mics I got here for testing are Mics attached to _headsets_. Those Mics ALL work perfectly when I use them with my Computer/Laptop for Skype etc.

Do I need a special amped mic?

bye

Fabian

@Fabian > The problem is likely the fact it's a mic attached to the headset -- see the number of rings on that connector?  Chances are the correct rings are not making contact with the points inside the mic jack on the T1 and as a result, you get no mic.  Unlike your computer or smartphone, the mic jack on the T1 is designed for a standard microphone, not a headset/mic combo.

The headset has two separate connecters one for the headphone part and on for the mic. Both connectors have 2 rings which separate gnd,L,R.

My normal soundcard is an Creative Audigy with an external console where to plug all plugs of the headset. The console has only 6,35mm jackets, the headset has 3,5mm plugs. So I'm using an adapter from female 3,5 to male 6,35. The Adapter also has two rings (gnd,L,R). When I plug my iphone into the apdapter and plug the adapter in the front of the DDJ-T1 I get sound. If I plug the headset mic to the adapter (and turn the volume up on the knob) I get nothing. If I plug the 6,35mm adapter out of my ddj-t1 and plug it back into my soundcard everything works. Since adapter and mic are working properly I doubt that there is an issue with the headset mic connector.

Nevertheless I'll get a propper mic (which is alsways a good idea) and check it out

Any budget suggestions for a mic that is confirmed working with the DDJ-T1? - I'm aiming at a price tag around 50 Euros.

bye

Fabian

The TRS are configured tip = hot, ring = cold, sleeve = ground, for stereo mics the ring is typically the right signal with the tip being the left signal.  If you use an iPhone type combo, it's TRRS with the second ring being the connector for the mic and button control.  In a mono microphone, the TRS is used for a balanced load whereas a TS connection is unbalanced (and may inherit interference over long cable runs).

A proper mic is always a better bet; you can get an inexpensive one for probably 25 euros, a good one will be around 75 euros.

I have been trying to solve this problem also, however using a Shure Beta 58 Mic.    To my great surprise I have learned that the Mic input is NOT TRS meaning it's NOT a balanced input. It works only with a Mono/unbalanced jack input.

This is not mentioned in the manuals anywhere, and I have tried on 3 different DDJ-T1 units at the dealershop.

I am pretty disapointed if Pioneer have made a unbalanced mic input on a "semi" prof equipment.

cheers from Denmark

Hi,

I just wanted to confirm, that after purchasing a cheap Behringer mic with a mono-jack it works fine.

why all pioneer dj products have problem with connecting microphone, why pioneer's microphone preamp so bad, INPUT(gain not controlled) signal from wireless microphone is too high, and when somebody talks too loud effect like distortion, one way microphone sennheiser(where sensetive -30db), shure doesn't have such function.

please improve this problem

Best regards from Russia

@Сергей > The preamps are just fine; have you adjusted the levels within the software?

preamps bad also on dj mixers, everywhere, not softwhare, nothing can help, only senh have function -30db, and it's help,

if u don't understand it, then pioneer will have trouble with preamp for a long time,

please do something

Best regards

There are thousands of DJs using DJMs every day who are not complaining about the mic inputs... probably as many of them adjust the mic gain input to compensate.

Possibly they don't use mic, for this function is studio mixer. Why pioneer doesn't want do it,

if u don't understand anything, please read my first message properly

I read your first message -- there are no problems with the mic preamps in the hardware.  If your wireless mic receiver is sending too high a signal, perhaps you have it set to LINE output instead of MIC.

it's high signal only for pioneer, others dj and studio equipment works fine,

Pioneer is  the BEST dj equipment, but microphone preamps not controlled gain and that's way, we have to use another eq for MICs

p.s. if set to line in - the signal is too weak

Best regards

If you have it set to LINE, you need to use the AUX input instead of the MIC input.

Here's what I've been told by 3 separate retailers. The mic input, even if it works, sounds tinny. The suggestion from all 3 local experts is simply not to use them! Get yourself an inexpensive small mixer. I bought a Yamaha MG10/2C 10 Mixer for $100 (US). You can connect 4 mics and 2 stereo inputs to the mixer. One of the stereo inputs is the DDJ-T1. Run the output to your amps/signal processor racks. I used this for a gig for the first time last night. Other than me still learning the DDJ-T1, It worked flawless. I would highly recommend this solution. If some dope insists on you playing something from his iPod, you can easily connect it right to the mixer without having to worry about changing any decks to live input.

Best of Luck,

DJWilly

Chances are you're having problems because you're not using an unbalanced connector for the mic input.  If you go from an XLR to 1/4", you can't use a TRS or you'll get some static / noise (especially with non-standard TRS connections with their rings in the wrong places).  Get a TS connector and you'll be problem-free.

OOOhh!!)))

The BOT come back))

why r u trying to justify your mistakes

I used balanced & unbalanced xlr and 1/4, it's not a way

pioneer best dj equip BUT microphone preamp very bad, when u connect wireless microphone and speak loudly  , there is effect like distortion (line in gain too high)

@Bill Sherwood > why pioneer makes microphone inputs, if we have to connect it to another mixer

Best regards

if u don't understand anything again, i can repeat

please don't justify yourself

Just arrived my Pioneer DDJ-T1 Controller.

Hooked it up to my Mac, great all works. Got a gig so will be handy.

Just check the mic. What, no input, what the.....

The book says plug mic in and go. nothing about having to set anything up on the software and why should be its only a mic. connected directly to the mixer right? wrong?

I have another gig tonight and will have to take a second mixer with me for the Mic. This is simply not good enough from such a company as Pioneer. If we have to set-up software then please immediately issue a document to detail how to do this. Otherwise I suggest that you re-call all of this units as unfit for use. Do not justify your self by saying there is nothing wrong as clearly there is an issue that you should be addressing rather than blaming the users.

Come on, get it fixed and if you can't at least apologies to all those who has spent hard cash. I'll give it a week and if there is no solution will be retuning the unit as faulty and wont purchase another Pioneer set.

Roderick,

I had the same issue when I got mine. It seems that NO digital controller handles a MIC input very well. Even when I used Traktor with my NI interfaces, the MIC never sounded right. Now, it should work. I didnt have to make any SW modifications, but still, the sound sucked! There's nothing like the sound of an analog MIC. The dealer who sold it to me was nice enough to give me a great deal on a small Yamaha mixer. This way, you can bring in your DDJ-T1 on one stereo input, and bring in a couple of MICs on the mono inputs. Works great if you have a cordless MIC and a DJ MIC.

Good Luck,

Bill (DJwilly)

I also have a Ddj T1 and can't get the Mic input to work for several months now. I have followed instructions posted on here but to no avail.
