[SOLVED] DDJ-T1 on USB 3.0 compatibility?

Hi guys, can anyone tell me if the DDJ-T1 works fine with USB 3.0, especially on the new Mid 2012 Macs like the Retina MacBook Pro?

I really would like to buy that controller but after reading alot of bad things bout compatibility with many other audiodevices like the ones from Native I am seriously concerned about that.

Does anyone has any experience with the DDJ-T1 on the new Macs? Or can Pioneer say something bout that?

I seem to be not able to find information regarding that on the internet.

Cheers (:

Given that the new MacBooks are just coming on to the market, it could be a while before you get any feedback from anyone here that a) has a new MBP and ALSO has a T1.

All I can say is, it should work.

Hey Gavin, thanks for your reaction :)

Actually I managed to get through by phone to the german tech service department for DJ Equipment and talked to one of their engineers at the workshop.

He told me that he doesn't know for sure and did not have the chance to make his own experience but mentioned, that Pioneer provided some kind of internal information that they expect it to work with these USB 3 interfaces.

Anyway i ended up ordering a NI Kontrol S4 after almost finishing an order for the DDJ-T1. One of my main concerns bout the DDJ-T1 was the really poor material quiality it is built from. Many many people are talking about this and mentioning things like that you can bend the case's plastic with a finger.

I do love Pioneer DJ equipment and was using your Mixers for ever i can think of and wouldn't be willing for something different. But having to deal with a case made of thin plastic and the immens gain of features the S4 is offering for a lower price over the DDJ changed my mind.

I hope Pioneer will offer a succeeding product that will catch up with the built Quality of their Mixers and CDJs for digital djing.

@decoratiff > Naturally, you would assume I would be defensive of Pioneer products, but I'm sitting here with a T1 one on my lap trying to figure out what plastic people are managing to bend with their fingers - I can genuinely say the T1 is robustly built (I've actually dropped this one a couple of times - shh!), I'm not managing to bend anything.

I just want to address the "build quality" comment...

The DDJ-T1 and DDJ-S1 are built on the same construction method as the CDJ; a metal base and frame with a plastic top.  The DDJs are no less durable than the CDJs are (which is still pretty darn durable).  The mixers, on the other hand, are fully housed in metal so that's a coup for them, but there's no need for a controller to be fully metal, it just makes it heavier to transport.

Tbh I have DDJ-T1 and I'm overwhelmed by it's size & weight! Thank god it's not ALL metal. I'm pretty strong man & I'd have problems to move it around if I constantly had to.

Btw now that Mountain Lion for Mac is out... Has anyone tested DDJ-T1 with it?

Nothing officially - Pioneer's unofficial statement is to wait until they have completed testing.

I was having so  many problems with my AMD CPU based notebook, running a clean setup of Windows 7 Professional 64-bits. It took me several days to figure out that AMD CPU's are having problems running Traktor 2.5.x. Both the notebook and a regular PC gave similar problems with glitches and poor audio quality. After setting the CPU affinity in the Windows Task Manager to only the last CPU core problems were solved. Then new problems with audio input appeared. I didn't want to put any more time and effort in figuring out how to solve that.

So I bought myself a new Macbook Air 13" with 256GB SSD (the faster Samsung one, not the slower Toshiba!!!). Upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion from scratch (wiped the pre-installed OS X Lion, I've read many problems with upgraded OS X!). Installed Traktor 2.5.0 and updated to 2.5.1. Copied all my music and installed all other software I would like to use for a daily living (IT Pro). Connected the DDJ-T1 to the USB3.0 port, waited a minuted for thing to detect. Started Traktor 2.5.1., ran the setup wizard, fine tuned my settings and all works like charm. No hickups, no glitches, the CPU indicator barely moves and stays very low.

So I can confirm that the DDJ-T1 works without issues on both USB3.0 and OS X Mountain Lion.

Have you done an upgrade to Mountain Lion or a new fresh install (wiping the entire hard disk)? The former gives lots of problems with many hardware devices and applications. It's on many forums. And people who had any problems finally did a clean install and the problems were gone.

@decoratiff: so you started this thread about usb 3.0 compatibility and ended up buying one of the controllers that are actually reported to HAVE problems on the usb 3 ports?

so far as i have understood s4 does not work on usb 3 / 2012 macs while s2 does

@Erick Henández: another option to do a clean install is to use the recovery hd,

this is a hidden partition in your mac (after lion or mountain lion install) that allows you to do maintenance operations on disk utility, restore previous install from time machine or install blank os

to use, start mac and press option key, there should be the option to boot from recovery hd

warning: just remember to do this while connected to a fast wifi as the latest os x installer will be downloaded from app store (after checking your app store username and password)

ps: there is also an apple utility, recovery disk assistant, that allows you to create a recovery usb stick, this stick will also need to connect to internet to fully install os, unlike the usb you can create following Jeroen Sleur tip

Kind if bringing this back from the dead.

But  am currently running a DDJ-T1 on a new Macbook Pro Retina with 3.0 USB ports.  I am running Traktor 2.5 with OSX Lion 10.7.5.

Functionally the T1 works as expected.  But I have been getting OSX Kernel Panics when the T1 is connected, turned on, and sitting idle for some time.  The panics seem to only occur when the controller is idle.  I have never had any problem during performances.  But, I find if i walk away for a couple hours, when I come back my macbook is usually sitting at a kernel panic screen, which requires the laptop to reboot in order to clear.

I have been searching the web to see if I can find a solution, but not much to be found on the subject.

My Kernel Panics were caused by having the clock enabled on my screen saver.  It had nothing to do with the T1.

So with that said I've been running my DDJ-T1 on my 2012 Mac Retina (USB 3.0) with no problem for the better part of 6 months...
