On USB power, the jog wheel lights are dis-abled...and all the lights are noticable dimmer...so it's normal.

Odd problem
I have a Pioneer ddj-t1 which I lent to a "friend" for a couple of days that turned out to be three weeks. Anyway I have it back now but have noticed the lights that run round the jog wheel to signify that a track is playing have stopped working. I used to have the unit running through the plug however my "friend" lost this so it's now powered via USB. My question is this has the unit in someway been damaged or do the lights only work when powered via the plug or I have I just changed an option i don't know about?

@Scott > As Greg has pointed out, these lights do not display when the unit is only being powered via USB. You'll need to purchase a new power supply... Or get your 'friend' to purchase it for you.
