[OPEN] DDJ-SX TOUCHPAD / GROUNDING (?) PROBLEMS

Hi,

Recently got a DDJ-SX and i'm having a few problems with it.

1) The unit itself feels like its holding an electrical charge, which feels almost like its vibrating ever so slightly when touched on the metal casing, especially around the top of the unit (near the FX wet / dry knobs). I have tried using various electrical sockets to plug this in although it does not seem to remedy it. Also when i plug the unit in via usb to my macbook it makes the metal case of my macbook feel the same, especially in the top left area around the USB hubs, so I'm a little worried to use the unit with the computer in case this problem damages it.

2) Also the touchpads for the first cue / roll insert are behaving in a really weird manner. if i touch the pad to trigger cue 1 it automatically places a random cue in slot 5 (the pad below pad 1) which cannot be deleted by touching the unit (shift - touchpad) but only by clearing the slot on the software. In loop roll the problem is a lot more apparent, as when you press touchpad 1, touchpad 5 instantly engages and wont come out of the loop roll unless its tuned off on the software. It seems that when touchpad one is pressed, for some reason it is automatically tripping touchpad 5 to engage and stick in an 'on' function - which is really annoying!!

I have the most up to date firmware etc and i love the unit but at the moment these problems are causing me not to get the full use out of it, and only for home use. I was wondering any of these problems are known or experienced by anyone else?

Thanks,

Tom R

@Tom > If you have EVERYTHING else disconnected from the SX, does it still exhibit this issue?

Are you running the latest firmware and software? Until one of the earlier updates, pads 5-8 did not function, which could be why you're seeing a random hotcue assignment.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me.

No, the unit only exhibits this behaviour once the A/C adapter is connected. The unit doesn't even need to be powered on, just plugged in with wall socket in on position. With the DDJ-SX solely plugged into the macbook via USB it feels normal to the touch.

I updated serato DJ to the newest version earlier this week. I have had the unit for a month and a half and before i ever used it i updated the firmware (10th of june) so i'm assuming this was to the may update (1.07). The other touchpads seem fine it just seems to be touchpad one tripping touchpad five into a stuck 'on' position.

I had it serviced by a Pioneer Service centre in London, UK. Service was great and the unit was collected and redelivered to my house with no charge to me, although there was a small delay as parts needed to be ordered.

The grounding problem however was not rectified and still persists. I have since bought a power socket checker and I can confirm all the sockets in my house are fine so it is not a problem with the wiring in the house.

The problem with the touchpads, although better than it was previous, still occurs on the right deck intermittently, which is really annoying and stops me wanting to use it in a club environment.

Also since it was serviced the right platter no longer works in vinyl mode, in so much that if you press down on the platter and move it back and forth it doesn't stop and scratch the tune it only slows it down as it would in CDJ mode. This was not happening before service.

I have spoken to the service centre and they will collect again when convenient, however with doing a lot of radio mixes at the moment I haven't found a good moment to be without it for a few weeks. Hopefully these are problems that can still be rectified with another service.

@Tom > The issue with the hotcues could be a latent MIDI setting - have you verified that you have no other commands set for MIDI control? The jog issue is likely a matter of adjusting the sensitivity. As for the grounding, because the power is DC, it could still be a problem with the unit itself. Have you tried it outside of the home to verify?

@michael > Sorry, I can't help anyone who yells at me. Please try updating your player firmware and ensure you are using the latest version of the Serato DJ software application.
