mainly because they are cheaper players and did not incorporate the ethernet port and code n the players to use it. I personally think it should be on all their players, but I guess the cost may be high and the cheaper players do not get it.

Folgen850 Computer Link to Control Software
I have been using USB but today experimented with the PC Link.
I know 850 is compatible with Rekordbox, but why not as using it as DJ Software?
Yet the 850 is compatible with other DJ Software such as Serato Scratch and whatnot...but not your own software? doesn't make any sense...and quite a bummer since I would love to use Rekordbox as DJ Software....
Yes, I realize the 900's/2000's are compatible with Rekordbox and the 850 is not, but WHY is it compatible with other DJ Software?
I would like to use both USB/PC. Unfortunately you'd have to manage two of the same libraries, including setting up cues and updating each seperately...as if managing one isn't enough!!

Rekordbox is not a DVS nor performance software; it's a music management tool. When connected to 900's or 2000's via the LINK, it's akin to using a "smart hard drive with a screen". The 850 and 350 don't have this feature because they are lower-range units and eliminating this feature was a matter of target market and price reduction as well as creating value of the higher models.
Okay, DJ software*/music management tool/smart hard drive with a screen/whatever you use it as - **bottom line = it is software*
and rock bottom, the 850 can utilize other companie's software like Traktor and Itch as a "smart hard drive with a screen"/"^^^", but not it's own?
Regardless of target market, price reduction, and creating value of the higher models - thats a major hiccup right there.
To give higher models their value you create and add to them specific features, NOT by stripping lower-range units of what should be there. And thats why this does not make sense, because something that should logically be there, isn't.
@Quistuhpha > The new generation of products were all conceptualised at the same time - we started with the fundamental idea of Rekordbox being a music management system and then implementing tools that could best take advantage of this feature.
Nothing was stripped out, each product was developed with its own unique selling point (naturally, or else you wouldn't have a marketable product). You can't expect a Golf to have the same features as a Bugatti Veyron, yet they are both made by Volkswagen.
@ Quistupha > Pulse and Gavin are exactly right. Each product was created for it's target market or else it would make selling points extremely difficult to determine for the different ranges.
Rekordbox is exactly what Pulse said, "a smart hard drive with a screen". Just think of it as a regular hard drive to make it easier. Rekordbox does not interact with the CDJ-900's or CDJ-2000's, it simply allows all of your music to be viewed just like on a hard drive or USB stick. When playing tracks from Rekordbox, there is nothing occurring on the Rekordbox screen like in Serato or Traktor. With Serato and Traktor, they are DJ'ing applications with built in functions that take over the capabilities and functions of the CDJ when using HID. The "Link" is just another connection to access music in your list, and add it to the CDJ without controlling the software. The CDJ's don't really control anything Rekordbox as it's almost a stand alone application that allows you access to your saved tracks.
The CDJ-900's and CDJ-2000's have this feature because it is an advanced and costly function to add. If the CDJ-850's had Rekordbox capabilities then it would be almost exactly the same as the CDJ-900's and the cost of each would be a lot closer. Therefore it would be harder to sell the CDJ-900 because the CDJ-850 has the exact same capabilities and has a nice looking waveform! The only other difference between the 2 players at that point would be the colour and "Slip Mode".
The notepad / text editor that comes with your operating system and Microsoft Word are both "text editing software", but they do vastly different things.
Lol! Are you serious. Come on. Look at the manual.

The feature and capability is already there, hence Itch/Traktor. But just not for Rekordbox.
As noted - Rekordbox is not a DVS; it is a music management software.
And it doesn't matter if it's DJ software or a "music management tool". The feature and capability is there. But it doesn't work.
DJ Software or "music management tool", once PC linked, can do the same things. Make playlists, set cues, assign tracks to the CDJs. You just keep referring it to a term you made and labled.
The CDJ850 DOES NOT have any support for LINK to Rekordbox; it has the ability to communicate with DJ software titles such as Scratch Live, Traktor, VirtualDJ or any other MIDI software or applications which have been setup for HID support. There is NO implied support for the CDJ850 to work with Rekordbox in ANY capacity other than music management.
