I've experienced this on some CDJs. I think it's to do with the Jog Wheel/platter. If it moves slightly at the same time you press Play/Pause, it will just stop the music whithout using the brake setting.
The Pioneer CDJ's have been around for something like 10 years. But there is one thing that bugs me (and many other dh's) that haven't been solved since the CDJ1000mk1:
I try to explain as good as possible, my main language isn't english so i hope this makes sense..
When you play a track while in vinyl mode, and you press the play/pause button, the song will slowly stop, like a real turntable. But sometimes the song will just stop abrupt, so you stand there in complete silence while everybody is looking at you and think you're an amateur.
There are many theory's among other dj's. Ofcourse you have to set the brake rotary far enough to the right, some claim it depends on how hard you press the play/cue button, others tell me i have to turn both vinyl rotary's to the left and right before using the brake.
None of the above 'solutions' work, i have my brake rotary to the far right, the play button is just an on/off switch, so it doesn't detect how hard i press it, and the left/right movement on the rotary is also nonsense (at least on the CDJ-1000) because it doesn't have software values in the knobs.
So what IS the solution to this? How many of you experience this problem? It happens around 1 out of 5 times to me, since a while i just use 100% pitch to brake with the pitch fader just to play safe, but is it so hard for Pioneer to solve this? Or are there only a few other dh's complaining about this issue, so it's not on priority list?
Thanks in advance for your reply's,
Chris

@Chris > Yes, @Mark90 is correct - if the platter slightly moves when being pressed the music will stop without using the brake setting. I realize your issue but there's a fine line between meeting the needs of those who want the brake feature and the DJs that want to scratch.
Exactly; nudge the platter when the player is effectively "paused" and the braking sound will stop. I'd check that first.
Thanks for the info on that
is there any way to prevent this from happening? Its ultra embarrassing when standing in front of a crowd :(
Can you set the jogwheel stiffness to maximum? Does that help? Never ever experienced this at home but almost every time when playing on the venues.
1: Does the wear and tear of the jog wheel matter?
2: Will it move by the cheer pressure of the big sub woofers on big venues?
Regards,
It's mostly from bass vibrations. What I do now is just turn the bass EQ to 25% right before I press brake. This way most of the punch is out the woofers. Even in larger venues or festivals this helped me out.
Ok :) They should add a "vinyl stop" setting in the menus , i never ever scratch on my cdj's
when that play button dies (and it will...just replaced mine) you'll be glad you can hold the track back with the platter then release it on cue... BUT, when playing on a system with a wall of 21's, the platter will pick up the bass and the track will experience a short (say about a 16th) pause throwing the beat match off. This is what I refer to as a first world problem...
Yes this was a problem on the cdj 1000's but i never see this on a cdj 2000
