CDJ 900, DJM 700, RMX 1000 advice needed

Hi all, I'm about to take delivery (tomorrow) of 2x CDJ 900, DJM 700, RMX 1000 but think I've made a mistake if I'm correct in thinking I won't be able to link them all so that the effects are Beatmatched/quatized. Am I right or am I missing something on the connection set up? Should I have got another mixer with ethernet ports or do the effect pick up the BPM from the audio signal. My set will be 2x CDJ 900, DJM 700, RMX 1000 2x Laptops (One running Traktor one running Ableton). 4 port USB hub.

Also I read on another post the you can't share 1 CD across linked CDJs. Is this realy true? If it is it will be a major let down as my current and much cheaper set allows for 1 cd to be linked across 2 CDJs, I can even search thorugh the cd on either unit whilst the cd is playing and cue the trak up or play in on the unit b. If these functions aren't avialable on my new babies I'll be disappointed as I'm paying 3x more for my new set up then I did for my old one only to have less functions. Luckily I'll have some time to before being stuck with the new kit, I'm so hoping they live up to my expectations

the djm 700 has no ethernet port. this means no quantized effects. if you want to link the cdjs and the djm you should buy a djm 900 nexus or djm 2000. the rmx 1000 has a new algorythm and needs no link/ethernet whatever. it picks the bpm from the audio signal.

with your setup u can only link the two cdj 900 and share tracks on usb, sd card or recordbox between them.

Thanx for the reply soda.  Does the 700 have a beat counter to keep the efx closely matched to the beat? I currently have a mixer that can match the efx automatically or by tap

Ok so just checked (should have done this before splashing out my money) the 700 midi out so can I go midi out to usb on my lap top and sync it with Traktors clock to match the beat with the efx?

The DJM-700 will pick up the beat to use with its effects just fine using its auto BPM detect using the normal audio signal just like all the mixers before it (500, 600, 800 etc.), nothing to worry about there.  The RMX-1000 auto-quantizes (it's very good!) on the fly using the normal audio input signal so no need to worry about that either.  The CDJ-900s will benefit from quantize information if you analyse your tracks using RekordBox and then play your tracks by either linking the CDJs to your computer or by exporting them to an SD card, USB stick or USB hard drive.

When linking your CDJs, you cannot link CDs.  You can only link USB or SD card, or tracks on a computer rubbing RekordBox.  One CDJ (or laptop), can link to up to 4 players in total simultaneously.

If I were you, I'd get a small 5 port network switch so you can connect both CDJs and a computer to it, to keep your options open.

Redss, you're overcomplicating things, the 700 will pick up the BPM just fine using the audio signal.

I will hazard a guess though that you'll end up using the RMX waaaay more than the 700's effects.  Though the Delay and BPM Flange and Filter effects are still very useful (and somewhat neglected on Pioneer's higher end products!).

Thanks Mark. I'm looking at doubling up the efx from the 700 with the efx of the 1000 to create some craziness along with ikaossilator on my ipad. Still cray that Pio didn't set the link on the CD my current player cost a third of the price of the 900 and can link all formats. However, it was time for an upgrade and I've always wanted a Pio set up so when I saw the 1000 that meant it was time for me to upgrade as altogther the kit will suit my style of mixing. I love to create experimental mixes and my old set up was limited in terms of creation on the fly.

I'll be using a 4 port wireless hub btw as I'll be using touchocs linked to Traktor to utilise the sample decks

Well if you want to combine the RMX with the DJM effects, then you'll be required to hook the RMX up directly from the mixer's master out as opposed to using a send/return loop.

Also, the RMX really seems to be a "two handed" device.  When you use it, you'll find yourself using both hands.  This sounds pretty basic but it makes using other effects kind of difficult.  That said, the DJM-700 still benefits from the 'set it and forget it' effects like the BPM Flange (which the DJM-2000 does NOT have!), filter and phaser.  Effects like these will be easier to combine.

I successfully combined the Inst FX and Beat Effects on the DJM-2000 with the EFX-1000, but the RMX is very good at grabbing all of your attention, and all of your hands.  It's obviously not impossible, but it's something you need to bear in mind.
