[SOLVED] CDJ-2000, RecordBox, Album column

Hi,

First I have to say that I don’t know if this should go into the RecordBox forum or not, but anyway I try this first…

Background:

  CDJ-2000 F/W 4.10

  RecordBox v1.5.4

Question:

I have song in Recordbox with ID3-taggs for information I would like to know and search for. For example I have the tag “Album” set to Club 001 on some songs and Club 002 on others, and so on…

The problem I having is that when I export the playlist to my USB memory, and look at "Album" in my cdj 2000 display, I have one row (in the left column) for every song that belongs to Club 001 and one row for every song that belongs to Club 002 and so on. Like this:

Club 001            Song 1

Club 001            Song2

Club 001            Song3

Club 002            Song1

Club 002            Song2

I prefer to have one row (in the left column) for each album when I brows trough the list, like this:

Club 001            Song1

                          Song2

                          Song3

In other words I would like to have one row in the left column showing me the Album Name, and in the right column I would like to see al the songs that belongs to that album.

I pretty sure that this can be done because I have seen other USB memories with Recordbox, working like this.

Thanks for any help with this.

Br,

Alex

All albums are always displayed; it doesn't "group" them.

Hi Puls,

Thanks for answering, but the strange thing is that I have actually managed to group a couple of songs. I have no Idea how I did it. On three songs I have one group, in other words one album. I can send you a picture of it if you would like to?

You can "group" them but the display should show each individual album when in a list. If you are actually viewing the album contents itself, you wouldn't see the line listing of the album name.

Sorry but I think it’s my lack in the English language, that might confuse you. Wait a few minute and I’ll take a picture of it so you can see what I mean…

Puls,

Please find the attached pictures and first have a look at Pic01. There you will see that I have three acapellas that are grouped together under album Acapella. In Pic02  I have browsed down a bit to show you that the rest is just one song per album row. What do you think about that?

Yeah, that's the Album view.  The reason the other ones aren't together may have to do with the fact they're from different artists.

Puls,

Yes they are, so that means that as long as the artist is the same they will be in the same group (album). I have found a work-around that almost takes me where I want to be. I have copied the text from the album tag to the label tag, and then they will be grouped when I look under label. The only problem is that I have to press the rotary button twice to get to the songs, but I can live with that. (if you don’t have any other solution…)

Btw Puls, I haven’t been around so much on this forum before, but I have already seen that you are a valuable source for the community. Keep up the good work. And thanks once again!

@Alex > Thanks - I appreciate it.

There are some nuances to the organization and display, but once you learn the tricks, you'll figure out what works best for you and how to work around them.

Hello,

I realize this is an old thread, but I have the same issue and this is the only useful one I could find.

I've just started using rekordbox and I must say it's a great tool for me to organise my music. However, this 'issue' (if you'd call it that) poses a problem for me. I would very much like to browse my albums like they were folders, but some compilation cd's (example: best of the 90's) contain songs of different artists, and I would also like to browse my files by artist name, so giving them all te same artist tag isn't really an option.

I wonder if you've had similar feedback on this and if maybe pioneer will change this in later firmware?

If the tracks are from different artists then on each track set the "album artist" tag to be "various artists". Then when you select  the album on the cdj you won't have duplicate album names. Just one album on the left with all of it's tracks listed on the right.
