[SOLVED] Serato Crashes with CDJ 850 + HID

I am using a CDJ 850 + SSL 2.4.2 + N.I. X1 over USB 3.0. Due to the nature of my situation, I cannot give 100% accurate detail on what I think the issue is, as I believe it's several issues.

I've had this happen on 2 separate laptops (both PC/Windows 7 64). The first laptop had usb 2.0 ports though. I've had the issue since 2.4.0 I believe, I think 2.3.3 worked fine (on the first laptop)...I would only have problems when I had my X1 plugged in with the CDJ 850. I believe I have solved one of the incidents that caused the crashes on the first laptop, which is changing the CDJ 850s Midi to channel 2, and changing the N.I. X1 to channel 3. I haven't tested the setup on USB 2.0 as yet, since my new laptop only has USB 3.0.

Also, this problem seems to be PC only related from what I can tell, as I've had several friends use HID mode on their macbooks on the same night I am having crashes.

(Side note for everyone, when Rane 62 is midi enabled, it uses channel 1 and can very much interfere with any assigned midi controls for devices of similar value, which is how I first came up with the idea of changing midi channels.)

Which leads me to my next issue, if this is in fact a USB 3.0 issue, Serato is probably not the source of the issue, and will have to be resolved by Pioneer.

Also, I have updated the USB 3.0 drivers with the drivers directly from intel as opposed to the native drivers supplied by Windows. So far most things behave much better with these drivers and the crashing occurs less often.

My CDJ 850 is updated with the latest firmware from Pioneer (not saying much though since they haven't updated since 08-07-2011).

I have tried everything I can think of and I am now at a loss. I purchased (though no fault of Serato's) the 850 specifically for HID mode.

I haven't tested the CDJ 2000s with my present changes as yet, but on the first machine CDJ 2000s worked fine, but crashed on the new one. Lastly I have 4 usb 3.0 slots so, using USB 2.0 is not possible.

If you need any more information regarding my situation please feel free to ask, I would like to get this situation resolved swiftly.

As a side note...

This bug still exists in 2.4.2

  • Track Display: Tracks showed on Display are not the actual played, mostly shows previous title or parts of it (in 2nd or 3rd line).

Additional bug

  • Switching to Link/PC mode does not activate first time.  Have to switch to CD/USB mode then back to Link/PC mode to enable HID support.

@Skinny > There's a quite a bit to troubleshoot here. Have you identified any problems with any tracks (although Traktor is usually good for spitting out poor tracks)? Have you tried your setup without the X1 and, if so, how did this perform?

Hi Gavin, thanks for your response.  There is an ongoing discussion between myself, a Rep from Rane and a Rep from Serato on the Serato forums.

http://serato.com/forum/discussion/792809#new

This discusses everything that we've tried so far and that we've found to NOT be the problem.  And to answer your question, yes, I have tried the setup without the X1.  I also did think about it being song specific, but no, too many random songs for that to be possible, and even when playing the same song it crashed on prior to closing, it will play fine once I reopen Serato.
