I agree, how can it be so hard to analyse a MP3 file.
And sometimes it stops analyzing in the middle of the file if you do a loop or things like that??
I really think Pioneer is not worthy of the being the DJ standard..
Does anyone else find it shocking that a 2,000eur piece of hardware is incapable of analysing MP3s when opening them? My PC takes a couple of seconds max per track.... so a dedicated piece of hardware could probably do it in 1 second.
I just find it unbelievable that we can't use CDs with MP3s on for all the funky features of this player. It's basically just a CDJ1000 if you don't use Rekordbox for it.
Anyone else think the same? Maybe a future firmware update to enable this feature?
Thanks
Matt

If you are still using CDs then these CDJs probably aren't for you. They are, as quoted from the press release, a multi-format player. If you want to take advantage of new features, you need to use different media.
If you want instant waveforms when using CDs, you'll need to burn as CD-Audio (just like all prior CDJs).
I have the CDJ 900 and the same if I use a cd so for the last 8 weeks I put my old cd's to WAV into Rekordbox to USB 1000 % better fast, tag list the loops ect it will take time but for me the way to go just some food have a good one.
Thanks Gavin. I can (and do) use Rekordbox now. Either from my phone or exporting to SD/USB. Works nicely.
But... many other DJs use my equipment. They're like "wow, nice kit".... but then most of the features don't work, and you can't even see the waveform, because they have standard MP3s on USB or CD.
The point still stands, Gavin.... that these decks cost THOUSANDS yet they are incapable of analysing an MP3 file that a cheap android mobile phone can do in a couple of seconds max. It's ridiculous (and borderline unacceptable).
:-(
Please can Pioneer think of fixing this with firmware?
Thanks
Matt
as rekordbox is a free app for all to use, why cant they download the app and analyse their music before coming out to use your decks? I had this issue when the cdj2000s were first out... but now all my djs use rekordbox... its a no brainer - why would pioneer need to add this feature to the actual player?
lots (most) djs arent that up on it yet. I've had the 2000s for a couple years now and have had lots of "guest" djs come and
play on my nights and honestly not a single one has bothered to DL rekordbox, load and analyze their music collection, learned the ins and outs of the program, exported everything correctly, just to play for an hour or two. Unless you actually OWN a pair of 2000s, not too many DJs are gonna go thru all that. Its too bad because some of these DJs might have a much better experience on the players and be more likely to buy them!
Exactly DubLN!
It's just a marketing tactic by Pioneer to get everyone to use their Rekordbox software. Then you get DJs locked into pioneer products so they wont switch to another brand in the future. It's quite clever marketing really.
The hardware absolutely has the capability to analyse tracks... they just refuse to let us have that feature. :-/
@matt d - conspiracy theory's lol... the app is free for pete sake! hardly a marketing ploy...
@dublin, i have guest djs using my decks most weeks... they are mainly different djs, when i book them i tell them to load RB & give them a link via email.. if they decide its too much for them, fair game... but lots of them do download and prepare their sets. Its down to how you communicate with the djs...lots of djs like to turn up with just a memory stick... but then you have those die hard cd burning djs...
I just think at this time theres probably much more things id like pioneer to focus on over adding this feature to the player... either way its not far away considering the deck can edit grids grids.... who knows with new fw upgrades!?!
Matt, of course it's free - that's the point. Their decks however are not.
You get some big DJs investing lots of time using Rekordbox to analyse songs, create cue points, exporting to their drives / phones etc... then suddenly you have DJs demanding clubs use Pioneer or they wont DJ there. Think about it!
Not saying it's a conspiracy theory. It's just very good marketing and they're driving more towards the Apple territory now. I'm a business-man so I spot these things. It's what I would do if I was in charge of Pioneer marketing :-D
I have to agree somewhat here. Each unit costs more than a decent laptop but is about a 10th as capable? Also, if these are not recommended for those that still use CD's, why does it have cd capability?
Dont get me wrong here, I own a pair of 2000's but have recently went back to using Traktor following the advanced HID update. Which basically means I'm using $2k controllers while the track analysis, Sync (if you use it hehe) and a host of other features are being provided to me by a laptop which cost $1500. (but I do like the feel of the cdjs!) I am amazed that for 4K (more for the 2000 nxs) this functionality cannot be achieved by the pioneer hardware.
I have to say that I upgraded to the 900s from a much cheaper multiple format CDJ and was shocked the 900s couldn't analyse the wave of a CD when a cheaper product could. Although the waveform on both aren't worth looking at. As for asking other DJs to use RekordBox, free or not at this point in time I couldn't recommend it to anyone due to it being so problematic. I work with another DJ on a regular basis and he knows the problems I've had and thinks it's hilarious that for what is supposed to be the a high quality product has such diabolical software behind it. Free download it might be but I doubt the cost hasn't been factored in to the cost of the hardware. There's no such thing as a free lunch.
Another function these cheap CDJs had was the ability to share 1 cd across a link so you could play a CD in one CDJ and search through the same CD and cue up a track on the other CDJ. Something to consider unless Pioneer intend to remove the ability to use CDs . I always carry a CD pouch as back up as I'be learned the hard way that both the laptop link and USB can be temperamental.
@Matt > Buts it has been the same on ALL PRIOR CDJ players! Every CDJ has had to build the waveform in real time when playing from a compressed data file. No, I don't see how a firmware can change this - its not a fix, nothing is broken - it is working how it has always worked. How do you know the hardware can do it?
@DubLN > Do any of your DJs actually ask you what they will be playing on before they turn up for a gig? You should encourage them to use Rekordbox if thats the case (see the reply from Matt Jackson).
@Matt > THANK YOU! This is exactly what I would expect most people to do.
@Alex > About a 10th as capable as what? You are saying that the reason you have to bring an extra $2,000 (approx) worth of gear to a gig is because the players don't (and HAVE NEVER) instantly analyse the tracks? There are, at least, two alternatives; use rekordbox or use uncompressed audio data.
@Si BooGie > The 900s CAN analyse the wave of a CD, provided that CD is burnt in an uncompressed format. If you choose to burn an MP3 CD thats your choice. Nope, incorrect - you could never share audio data from one CDJ to another via a CD source. Yes, I would imagine Pioneer are considering removing the use of CDs.
I've answered all your questions and this argument is over.
