Sounds like a broken player to me. I would get that looked at by service (or exchanged at the store if within the time limits).
Hi all, I just got a CDJ 2000 and for some reason the vinyl mode is not working. When I play a CD or USB track in CDJ mode all is normal but when I try to switch to vinyl while playing the track stops and when I try to play a track when the vinyl mode is selected it won't play......However when I play needle search it plays and if I move the platter you get the sound.
Anyone knows what is wrong? No such problem on my CDJ900 though

I bought it yesterday used from a private seller and eventhough we quickly ran through a few things we never tested the vinyl mode. I know, stupid of me!! Only discovered it after setting everything up and trying to do a mix:(
Already spoke in the mean time to a service center and they said they had not yet encountered this problem on the 2000 but had a pretty good idea what might be wrong. Guess I will need to get in touch with the seller and sort this mess out...
It seems something is wrong with (one of) the springs or pressure sensors below the jog platter. The CDJ acts as if the platter is continuously pressed down. In the CDJ mode this doesn't matter, but in Vinyl mode this is obviously stopping playback...
It's likely just the jog pressure switches that need repair, any authorized service shop should be able to do this for you.
Hi all, thanks for the replies:) I spoke to the previous owner and he told me the same and offered to sort it out as he has to do it a lot on the CDJ's he has in his bars. He also told me that if people put stuff on the platter (big CD wallets etc) this will cause the problem.
It actually makes sense to me now, never thought about that aspect of switching between the CDJ and vinyl mode. Is this by the way new in the CDJ 2000 compared to the CDJ 1000 mk3? I used to have the 1000's but the top of the platter felt less sensitive?
@Steve > Yeah, unfortunately some DJs don't think of this before they go and plonk their laptop or CD case up on top of CDJs. One bar I was in one time had a DJ booth that was confined for space - they had two CDJ1000MK3s resting on top of the platters of two DVJ1000s! The jogs are pressure sensitive so this is clearly a bad idea.
No, its pretty much the same as the 1000MK3. You can switch between CDJ and Vinyl and adjust the pressure sensitivity setting of the jog.
Thanks for the update about the 1000mk3 Gavin. I never had a problem like this mainly because I'm ultra careful with my equipment LOL But I have seen other DJs put all sorts of stuff on CDJs and even the arm of vinyl decks back in the day. It should be fixed later today, looking forward to that as I always prefer to use vinyl mode.
