Hey mate, thanks for stopping by. I'm still there, I just changed my username to reflect my twitter handle: it's /u/gavin_mcmahon. I believe the answers to your questions are: no, yes, no. I'll try to get some further information for you - Linux is a great OS but until theres strong adoption by DJs you're likely to find it difficult to gain traction. I know this isn't the answer you wanted, but ultimately, this boils down to a business decision.

FolgenCurrent Pioneer CDJs and xwax, the open source DVS for linux
Hello everyone!
Generic midi controller support for xwax is currently in (very early) development but I think once it's off the ground it may mean that we can have some very nice integration between xwax and your CDJs. The idea is basically to pop a timecode CD into the player, as per usual, but then rather than hooking it up to an external interface to just use the CDJ as one. And then, on top of that, to also use the CDJ as midi controller, loading tracks, firing off hot cues, etc. The advantages of this are that setup is just 1 usb cable and 1 CD per deck and your hands never have to leave the CDJs or the mixer while you're spinning :)
It does, however, rely on the CDJs ability to do certain things. I had a leaf through the manual but I didn't find the answers I was looking for so I'll ask here:
- Does the CDJ's audio interface have a stereo input that would allow audio from a CD can be routed into the computer while simultaneously routing audio from the computer out the RCAs on the back?
- Are the CDJs class compliant midi devices?
- Is it possible to simultaneously use the CDJ as a CD player, retaining use of the jog wheel, pitch fader and play/pause button while sending midi data via USB from all or some of the remaining controls?
This is still really very much in the idea stages but it'd be nice to find out to what extent this is possible.
Thanks guys,
Louis
P.S. Hey Gavin, how come you deleted your reddit account? I ask just going to ask you this in a PM on there :P

Well none of the features I was asking about have anything to do with linux at all. was careful to do that- things like getting the audio interface to work we can do fairly easily and asking for official support just isn't going to work. ;)
I feared as much. Oh well, it was a nice idea! I'll have to try and get my hands on the new DJMs and see if I can get that interface to play nicely and get some midi control out of them.
