CDJ 2000 vs CDJ 2000 NEXUS?

Hi

It's time to upgrade from my cdj 850.

What should i buy between the the 2000 and nexus? i've heard many people complaining on the nexus and this confused me.

who used them both, what would you suggest?

Will the cdj 2000 continue to be sell?or will the the nexus replace it?

thank you

For me it would be easy.

Nexus.

Why buy something which is now superceded by another mode.  I know there have been some probs for some people, but I have found them fine and Pioneer are making sure they check out the firmwzard and update as needed.

Plus which a lot of 'faults' which get posted on here are due to not analysing through Rekordbox latest version or not understanding the players.  The slip mode and quantise can seem strange to people  (they did to me) because they take over control a bit, so for experienced djs they can feel funny due to the deck not starting as soon as you press play.  But that is bound to be the case unless you hit it bang on.

They sound great and work great.

thank you

can you explain me what's the difference between the quantize on cdj 2000 and nexus? wasn't the cdj 2000 be able to use quantize?

according to this the only new improvement on nexus are the hot cues quantized, and the on/of botton?

thank you

what are your plans with the players? thats a big factor, Are you buying them to control serato or traktor or are you buying them to use Rekordbox and flash drives?

the fault the decks had are not due to inexperienced dj's, When the decks first came out they had a lot of issues freezing up, especially when hot cues where loading and being used and this is why there was a buzz around clubs and dj's that the Nexus decks have issues, Some jobs I would work and bring the decks now some guys bring up the issues but I do assure them they are finally fixed, I had the decks since release date and could not use them live until firmware 1.06 which came out a couple of months after they came out, I was using a friends 2000mk1's while the Nexus' sat home

as far as newly posted issues, it's a combo of RB faults with waves being off which I have also but it's not a big deal and I am sure it will be fixed soon and also  people using quantizing and sync (which i dont so I dont see these issues), if you have quantize and and/or sync and hit a cue or play a tiny bit off beat, it will correct it for you and play on beat but there will be a delay so it starts on beat so it seems like something is wrong but there's really not.

Honestly now that 1.06 is out, the decks are great and I would recommend to anyone looking around.

BriChi is right and if he says they are fixed they are fixed.  Nobody else tests as thoroughly

I've had mine since first release and never had the freezing issue, but I guess I was lucky and my style is pretty laid back, so I don't push them to a lot of cues and loops.

I guess, to put it in context, there are not many people reporting problems on here, so there are a lot of people out there who are happy with them.

Just a little comment, though BriChi.  Some of the posts on here are due to people (very experienced djs) not being used to with this complex technology.  There is a bit of a learning curve in places, but then we've moved a long way forward in 4 years here. There are a lot of things which can seem puzzling.  Also with a perceived fault it might be due to other external factors, such as external drives, capacities,  partitions,  hubs,  cables etc. etc.

I also think that selling them as a nexus product straight after the DJ Aero confused some people  (inc me) because I thought they would work in a similar way to the Aero ,  for example being able to browse the external hd files from a tablet or smartphone, which is a great feature on the aero.

But I have to say, once it is hooked up by wirless, my macbook pro loads tracks superfast and all the other things seem to be ok.  Like having comments fields with Mixed in Key system on the player

One thing I haven't sorted out yet, is this thing where the player is supposed to show compatable keys for harmonic mixing by colouring the key bit blue.

Is probably me, though.

My advice Fabrizio is get them ordered today and play them tomorrow.

You can pick up the Nexus players for the same price as the MK1 so for that reason alone I'd go with the newer players.

Can I just check dj since 74 you are not referring to me as an inexperienced dj having reported several NXS issues since launch, I had my first 1210's in 1992 so I'm quite competent having also owned CDJ1000's, and CDJ2000 Mk1.

To add my two cents - Gavin is right if money is no issue then buy the NXS and despite a number of issues since launch they are getting there. The problem is with this technology there are so many elements which could cause issue - network switches being one which caused me a ton of grief - I upgraded to a better switch one which was recommended by pioneer and issue gone.

If you are buying for Sync, better master tempo ask yourself first - could I use a DAW and save on hardware costs (if you have a laptop of course) or to lessen the investment use CDJ2000 MK1s with Traktor - you essentially get the Nexus product but have a dependancy on a laptop whereas with the Nexus system you don't. It really depends on your needs - how you like to play etc.

In truth the NXS are not quite there yet for me the sync feature doesn't quite work correctly but it did with previous FW's so I suspect this will be corrected soon, when it is then the NXS route will be the dogs bollox

LOL

Hi Paulm72

I think if you look at all my post I never use the 'inexperienced' word.  ~I did use the "experienced word though"  Didn't even think of you though, sorry.

But you are only a youngster compared to me.  I was djing using two dinosaurs teeth fastened to a piece of tree bark  back in the day.  Actually I probably did my first paid gig when you were 2. First track I ever played to a crowd was Curtis M Move on up.  Happy days

Just to clarify what I meant in the other post.  .  The slip mode and quantization are a little strange if havent used them before.  I personally am not too keen on them because there is nothing like syncing two tracks up by hand and ear.   I noticed the same as you with where the waveform points and sync points are. Maybe when they fix it I will be happy.

All the best

djsince74 - apologies mate, note to self must read posts thoroughly before responding. I must be a bit insecure about my comprehension of all things 21st century dj'ing LOL.

yes it will, it's not on the discontinued list "yet" but it's very hard to find the mk1 in a legit retail store like PSSL, Guitar Center, dj shops, etc...... now it will be only purchasable on like Ebay and such sites

Hello everyone, I'm following this thread only to understand if it's time to sell my Mk1 (2 years old) and buy a couple of NEXUS or keep them, I'm not so much interested to sync or mix in key. By the way in Italy all the shop I asked they sell Nexus only telling me that CDJ 2000 mk1 has been discontinued.
