[SOLVED] CDJ 2000 Nexus... To use Mixed in Key or not?

I understand RB has KEYS and CDJ Nexus shows what songs are compatiable so to speak.

Curious if this makes Mixed in Key pointless or ? Those who use either I would like to know thoughts of RB Key with CDJ Nxs feature Vs. MIK or should all 3 be used?

I can tell you in my opinion the RB keys are useless unless you know how to read those keys?? With mixed in key you know you can go from a 2A to a 4A etc... I have NO clue with the RB keys. So what I have done is set up mixed in key to have the Key show up before the song so I can see it on the CDJ with have to wait for it to scroll. This is one thing I hope they change in RB. We are all DJ's. But not even the biggest musicians in the world no how to read music and keys. Not sure what they were thinking when they did it that way??? Well.... They weren't thinking!!

I agree with that but, at least with the Nexus doesn't it go a step further and have in BLUE LIGHT next to the track that lets you know if 2 songs will match? How well does this work and does this pretty much make MIK a thing of the past for Nexus users or is MIK still better?

As I said, I agree that Pioneer should at least make MIK type KEY column that converts Keys to something easier for DJ's.

I'm not sure who built RB, if it was a bunch or Nerds so to speak or DJ's? A lot of things could be added...

Yes they do highlight the key in green to let you know what song will mix well with the current song playing. But you don't know what you are jumping to??? You don't know if your jumping from a 4A-7A or a 4A-1A???? You don't know if your pumping the club up?? Or Down??? They need to change it.

I see, good point. It's kind of a pain adding all the MIK to comments on top of adding artwork to wave tracks so yes, I hope they come up with something better. As it is right now, I hate adding music to my collection knowing I'll be spending hours setting it all up. (MIK, Artwork, beat/cues etc...

WHen using WAV formats. I use MIK, I goto RB and try to reload tag and nothing... I've been typing all that crap into the comments. I'm guessing MIK and WAV doesn't work? AM I doing something wrong?

Thanks, I wish there was a better format than 320. I don't need WAV and would be willing to give up a little to get artworrk and all added but it has to be better than 320. In todays world you would think we could do better than 320 or come up with a format close to WAV but still allow...

Hummm. I did a online search in google (Wav to aiff) and it asked (Change audio bitrate:) and the highest was 320. I'll have to dig deeper

Pioneer players etc support AIFF?

I think at one time I looked at FLAC and Pioneer did not.

Yes it's supported (it's even printed on the players...), I'm only using AIFF files with my CDJ-2000 and CDJ-2000 Nexus players.

I found a converter but would love to know how to add artwork.

I'm on a Mac so I've been using iTunes to add cover art and then imported all my tracks via iTunes bridge to rekordbox.

From my experience as a musician and DJ, I really appreciate the key notation for the pioneer rekordbox, especially if you are using the cdj 2000 nexus. I have used it with and without the key features and definitely prefer the key. As for keys, I really appreciate the set up they have chosen, especially coming from playing other instruments. I find it to be accurate as well! If you are used to Camelot maybe check this out...

@DJ Pete > I can assure you, the biggest DJs in the world certainly know what Standard Notation is. Camelot Notation came afterwards and was a method of simplifying the process for DJs. You can easily translate from Standard to Camelot Notation using the Camelot wheel. Plus MiK are the license owners of the Camelot system.

@Justin > AIFF is supported. FLAC is not.

I have stopped using Mixed In Key because I find the key analysis of Rekordbox is more accurate.

Currently, I have the Standard Notation going in the Key Field in Rekordbox and I use Camelot Notation in the Comments Field.

That way, I get the best of both worlds.  I can easily see the Camelot number, yet still have the Standard Key available, too.
