Folgen[CLOSED] NI says no Advanced HID on CDJ850's, because Pioneer has not requested it...
We've been hearing all kinds of things, on other forums but even on this one as well, that has lead me and others that the reason there is no Advanced HID on the CDJ850's is because Native Instruments will/has not spent the time to make it work.
I've been talking to NI about this and they say otherwise. They are saying it is highly unlikely that it EVER happens because in almost all circumstances the hardware manufacturer requests TRAKTOR READY certification before the product even hits the market.
I told them that made no sense as it took over two years for the CDJ2000/900/400 to have Advanced HID comparability with Traktor but they insist, regardless of how long it took, that Pioneer requested TRAKTOR READY certification before these CDJs were ever released. They also insist Pioneer never requested this certification on the 850's (I did not talk to them about the 350's but let's assume this applies to those too) and thus the 850's are not likely to ever have this feature with Traktor.
I'm no software engineer but it doesn't seem like it would take an act of god to get this done. It actually seems like it could be quite easy. I think the disconnect here is we keep hearing from the Pioneer side that the ball in in NI's court, but NI says Pioneer has never requested it int he first place.
My question is; what will it take to get Pioneer to request this? I bet they would sell a lot more CDJ850's if they did. I would buy a pair myself (right now 800MK2's with timecode is just fine but Advanced HID would change this). I, and many like me, will NEVER spend the $$$ on CDJ2000's/900's just as control surfaces for Traktor. But we do play on them when we gig at clubs that have them. Being able to have something at home that makes more financial sense, i.e. 850's, that we can use working with via Advanced HID only makes sense, and would ultimately sell a lot of Pioneer hardware.
Believe me it would not cannibalize sales of 2000's/900's as people like me will never be buying those (short of winning the lottery or a large inheritance) in the first place.

dude, just forget it.....I have received the same answer from NI, the ball is on Pioneers court, and Pioneers is claiming that the ball is on NI court.
I really do not think Pioneer or traktor have intentions of making 850 or 350 HID...there is no money involved on these players.
you have to spend $2000.00 usd so both companies can make money...you are just gonna get a lame answer from Pioneer.
In a way I forgot about it long ago... When I decided not to buy new CDJs. For me these old 800 MK2's do the same thing 850's would do using timecode. Currently Pioneer doesn't offer a product that I would buy that suits my purposes and better than the CDJs I already have.
"any better", not "and better"
this doesnt make sense to me, why would pioneer have to request this? THe decks are HID compatible, NI needs to write it into their software the same way every other company did, I doubt Pioneer went around and asked companies like virtual dj to please add their 850 to the list. I can see if they wanted the audio routed to be "certified" but if you own a traktor sound card and just want the 805's to control it, then it seems that NI needs to just map it properly
^ There are already MIDI maps for it.
i agree with you though. I assume the same thing. I don't think Pioneer necissarily had to request Atomix or Serato to make their software play nicely with the Pioneer hardware via HID. But maybe they did? Who knows?
But we do know what NI requires to do it. NI is pretty clear on their policy. If a company (Pioneer) doesn't request Traktor Certification they will not implement it for that piece of gear. Pioneer obviously requested it on the CDJ2000, CDJ2000nexus, CDJ900, CDJ400, DJM900, and DJM850 though.
IF their reasoning is that they think they are going to sell more CDJ900/2000's because the 350's and 850's are not Traktor Certified they are out of their minds. That would be a horrible business decision. You would have to be crazy to spend $3,000-$4,000 for a pair of CDJs just to have them be Traktor controllers. $1,500 for a pair of 850's on the other hand? Maybe. That still seems crazy just to buy two virtual deck controllers for Traktor, but I would already have a pair of CDJ850's if they did.
@Gavintech > Unfortunately, I can't say too much but please remember that, at their very core, these are business decisions by the respective companies. Nobody wants to give anything away "for free"... And I'm not talking about Pioneer here. There's a little reading between the lines.
