[SOLVED] Hot cue question on NXS, someone posted the other day?

I'm new to the CDJ, and I recently purchased a NXS CDJ. The past week or so I have been exploring this device and what it can do before I take it on the road. Thus far, I'm amazed. However, I'm trying to get everything pinpoint accurate. The other day someone posted about a Hot Cue issue. I think I'm having a similar problem.

Example;

I'm playing a track on the CDJ NXS with hot cues set on A,B, and C from rekorbox, and my hot cues are working fine on the current track playing, it's when I select the next track, and while the next track is playing if I hit a hot cue it goes back to the previous track with the hot cue that I select. In other words, if I hit hot cue A for the new track playing, it will jump back to the Hot cue that was set from my last track playing, and so one.

I think someone stated I have to change something (add auto column ??) in Rekorbox. How do I go about doing so? In preference, when I set up rekorbox, I selected 'prepare hot cue auto load for CDJ use, on import'. Do I need to do something else, or how do I add auto column ?

if you have your tracks set to NOT load hot cues automatically then yes, They stay on ABC until you  call up new ones manually, Some dj's like this feature so they can use ABC to jump around to different track samples. What it sounds like you want is similar to software like Serato/ or Traktor, when you load a song, the save hot cues load with it correct?

IF this is the case then in RB you can do one of 2 things, Enable hot cue load for ALL your tracks or do them one by one as you want. For me, I do ALL, So in this case go to the collection view so ALL your tracks are there, Select them all by clicking on one track and doinf a CTRL+A or mac COMMAND+A, now open the little part of the INFO Pane to the left and scroll down to "allow to auto load HotCue on CDJ" and put a check mark in the box, depending on the library it may take a while to do this.

to confirm they all have it enable the hot cue column by right clicking on the header and selecting hot cue, ALL your tracks shot have hot cue checked

if you exported all your tracks to usb also already, you have to do this on that device also once plugged in.

to always have new tracks added to auto load, go into RB preferences and select "Prepare hot cue auto load on import", now all future tracks added to RB will be ready to auto load IF you have an ABC hot cue set. I attached some pics below so you know what to look for

Thanx again Birch, I'll try it when I return home. Although, I do see a creative advantage, for example to maybe pop a hot cue drum roll in sync with a track playing. Is there's way to use both functions? For now, I'll play it safe, and follow your instructions:-)

no problem man definitely play around, different dj's have different feels of what they like and creativity.

Let me know if I can help ya out any further after you're home

LOL, trust me I will :-) one quickie to be sure. If I'm understanding correctly, once I do this in Rekordbox, I have to redo my USB sticks?

correct, it has to be done on the sticks as well, you can either manually do it on the sticks while plugged into RB or once you have RB all set right, format the usb sticks and re-export. which ever way is easier for you

As far as the reverse button on the CDJ NXS, how do I get it to be in sync. It seems when I click the reverse, it's not a smooth rhythm, it appears off beat just a bit when I click it back to regular play. I want it to flow in perfect rhythm?

I did some very quick tests

If you use revers alone, yes it goes off beat a little when you flip back to fwd play

if you keep quantize on, it helps a lot

if you use slip mode, it works great

Yes, it works good with slip mode, Thanx!!! I doubt I'll be using it much, but it is good to have the option. I've been playing around with the Hot Cues, and I can see the function will be one of my choices of weapons in the mix:-)

Hey BriChi, if you are still around, I have another question about the Hot Cue buttons. Should there be a (slight) delay when I hit the CDJ NXS hot cues. I'm noticing I can't do a rapid hit on the Hot Cues. Say for instance, if I wanted to do a 1/8 or faster rapid beat cue on the hot Cue button, it will only allow me to do like a 1/2 beat cue. I can see great possibility if i can rapidly hit the hot cue bottons. Is there a setting or something I need to adjust?

sounds like you have the quantize button on, this will trigger the hot cue on beat even if you hit it very fast, To trigger them quick you have to turn that button off

Yes, I always keep the quantize on. I'll check it out tomorrow. I've been bang'n away most of the day. LOL! Thanx again for the heads-up! I feel like I owe you something for the classroom session you have provided:-)

Yelp! The quantize (on) button is the problem, (well, not really a problem, but my mistake)! I may need a few more weeks to play around with Rekorbox, and the CDJ (setting the best cue/loop points), and other hidden toyz and then I think I will be ready to take my CDJ set-up on the road. My Traktor/X1 set-up is really feeling lonely these days:-)

YES, and thanx for asking. I'm really enjoying my CDJ NXS! This is perhaps my BEST investment since I got back into the DJ world:-) I will be taking them on the road for the first time in March, and I'm really excited. I'll stay in touch if I encounter any problems, but thus far all is great!
