[SOLVED] CDJ 2000 volume is very loud on DB4

Hello!

I've bought a CDJ 2000 2nd hand from ebay. Everything works as expected but the volume is really high in comparison to my 1210's, Traktor or even just my laptop connected to my mixer. I've got a A&H DB4 mixer but have to turn the gains right down to use the CDJ (on firmware 4.11).

Is there a master volume for the CDJ I can adjust? Not much luck finding anything on the web about it so decided t sign up and post here.

Thanks

Neil Walker

make sure if you are in channels 3&4 you have the switch in the back set to LINE and not PHONO, if its on phono and you plug in a cd player it will be very loud and distorted

Also, what firmware is your DB4 on? Latest is 2.0 I think.
I have a db4 and cdj2000s and the gains are usually set between 12 and 1 O'clock, mine are connected via the digital ins too.

Thanks for the quick responses guys!

I'm running the cdj into channel 1 via phono cables. If I have the gain turned up any higher than 9 - 10 o'clock it red lines to channel and master outputs.  Like Phil, my other kit is usually sitting between 12 - 1 o'clock. I'm running the latest DB4 firmware 2.00.

I've only got the single cdj at the moment, I just wanted to check it out and see if I liked them before getting another before dropping more cash so I can't compare it to another one.

I think I'll try and pick up some digital cables today and give that a shot. It's still totally usable, just would like it to be more consistent with the rest of my kit.

no problem neil, i'm pretty sure you can do a test with the digital out/ins by just using a single strand from your phono cables, they should work fine.

Also Neil, if you can, plug in an ipod or home cd/dvd player to the same input and play a track and see how it compares

@Neil > I'd also be interested to hear what other inputs sound like, running through your mixer to see how it compares with the CDJs.

Are you sure you have chosen the correct input source etc?

Hey guys,

So I got myself a 2nd CDJ 2000 and the volumes are consistent between the 2 of them. Again I've got to keep the gains between 9 -10 before it starts red lining where all my other kit sits at 12 -1. I've been back and checked running my Macbook Pro from the headphone jack into the mixer at full volume and still doesn't get nearly as much volume as the CDJ's, its not a big issue, I'll just need to be extra careful.

I've been super busy with work so not had the chance to fully experiment. One thought I had was, could this be a setting in rekordbox which is pushing the volume up on each track? I will investigate that this evening. The rekordbox settings are all default, I just imported playlists from itunes using the bridge, let them analyse and exported to a USB stick.

no, RB does not adjust volume levels just so you know

@Neil > Rekordbox does not make any audio changes to files.
