[SOLVED] DISABLE THE SYNC FLASHING LIGHT

So I'm sitting here thinking about many conversations with fellow djs about the sync feature on the CDJ's and other dj gear. And most are not as on board with sync as i am... I started on vinyl and have tried to progress with technology as time goes on.. I understand that new djs today are not learning on vinyl beat matching like i did back in the day.. So I was thinking that MAYBE it would be a good feature on the CDJ's and RB that if we have the option to shut off the blinking sync light when using the sync feature??  The sync feature is still in use when selected.. But the light is NOT flashing.. Then maybe more djs will use it without felling embarrassed ? I really dont see the difference in using the sync feature or just pre-matching the bpm's using the pitch fader?? I know if i want to do a EDM, or House set at a specific BPM for my set? I just use my DJM 2000 Nexus as my hub and set it to the bpm I want and sync my players to the mixer. I have also done the same thing manually moving my pitch fader to the appropriate BPM before mixing... I see the sync feature as saving me this step in mixing.. Cause lets all be honest here.. Even if songs are NOT beat gridded, they still stay on beat 98% of the time... Even with sync, tunes need to be adjusted during mixing a tiny bit. So I figured MAYBE if there is a feature to shut the flashing sync light off? Then more djs will use it on the Down low and there wont be big up roar over this feature... Cause now with Serato DJ having sync, and Traktor as well, it just makes sense to me to have this feature on the cdjs... Why? cause when DJs are using a DJ s/w program u can't see the sync feature being used on the laptop.... But on the CDJ's..... We have this flashing light that is saying.... HEY EVERYONE... LOOK AT ME.... IM USING THE SYNC FEATURE... THAT MUST MEAN I CANT MIX AND I AM NOT A REAL DJ... LOL Those there are my thoughts and future feature request.

You can use the sync so "hidden" as follows:

  • Do not hold any sync button pressed.

  • The CDJ you want to use the sync feature, press the sync button twice: the first time the feature is enabled and will be made at this time synchronization, the second time the feature will be disabled but will be kept synchronized BPM.

This way if someone looking at the CDJs will not see the SYNC button activated and dj have used the sync feature in a "hidden".

I know this can be argued in many ways but who really cares what other DJs may think if you can maintain a packed dance floor.  I know most of us judge each other as DJs and size each other up but honestly at the end of the day, go tell a person who doesn't know anything about DJing, about the Sync button and see their reaction...The crowd doesn't care.  It's all about the music and as I admit other DJs judge and will talk crap, my attitude towards them would be not to give a fak what they say or think and direct the attention towards the dance floor.

Thanks DJ Pete.  I honestly feel that way but I do understand where you were coming from in your post too,  It's too bad, we as people, have to spend so much time judging and criticizing each other to make our selves feel better. :-(

Yes I agree Walter... In my experience it's old school djs like myself that have the most issues with the sync feature. I must admit that i was one of those dj's that used to scream and shout about the sync feature, and that it is cheating etc etc etc... But over the past 2 years I have come to realize where the world of djing is... We are not spinning on vinyl anymore... Turntables are not the industry standard anymore.. And when I watch old school djs using Traktor and just a mixer and a X1 Kontrol unit to rock a huge club or festival... Then it was time for me to change my views on Sync and s/w programs with sync. I also came to realize that even if you are using a dj s/w program without sync, or CD's on a cdj, or a USB with analyzed music.... If you pre-match the BPM's on the players?? They are pretty much synced already... So why not use the sync feature then i told myself?? I frees me up to use my RMX-1000 and other effects to what I like to call... Remixing the Remix... I'm making the music I play my own.. Put my own style on it.. I figured if there was a way to shut the flashing sync light off on the cdj's, then maybe more djs will give it a try without being embarrassed and see that it true is the same thing.. This is the way young djs are learning to dj today.. They use the sync feature to help the learn and see how to match the beats up for mixing... The good djs will still rise to the top because it was never about being the perfect beat matcher...(although it is and was very important) It was always about timing and creativity when djing.

Thumbs up to your comment above.  If Pioneer ever did put the option there, I would like to see a user selectable dimmer which goes all the way to off.  Personally I hate that it's so bright and flashes cuz it distracts me sometimes =)

It should be possible as we are able to dim the jog LEDs via the sw.

First, if you are being judged by non-DJs they likely won't know what the button is or does anyway.

Second, if you are being judged by DJs who see you using sync and berate you for it (and not praise you for the additional time you have to spend on other elements of your mix), then I would not worry about being judged by these "DJ's".

With that conclusion, I don't believe this will be changed.

Not sure why this has the "SOLVED" on it?? This is a forum Gavin to discuss opinions and other issues.. This topic isn't bashing Pioneer like 90% of the forum is.. So I would think that you would want to keep it going as long as possible?? LOL If you can send this request to the engineers I would greatly appreciate it.. While your opinion on this topic is great… It would still be nice to get it passed along… Cause while a small group of us here on the forum might think disabling the light is no big deal. And if other djs want to talk smack about a djs who uses sync they are dumb… I can tell you that is NOT the real world we live in.. I take care of, and manage over 45 djs world wide, and I see and hear the daily conversations that go on… REAL TALK!! And DJS that use sync on the Nexus players… Or that use Traktor or any other setup that has a sync feature are looked down on from other djs.. If you are a Traktor user and don't use the since feature? You are still looked down on because you are assumed to be using the sync feature… You can easily blow it off Gavin.. But this is a REAL ISSUE and something that Pioneer can make a minor adjustment via F/W to maybe reduce the pressure of the SYNC issue. I see dj's arguing over the dj using the sync feature on Youtube and my own website, instead of commenting on the dj's creativity and style of the set…. So all I'm asking is to please fwd the request to the engineers to let the DJ decide whether or not he or she wants the light flashing? I am on the same page as you Gavin about embracing the future of djing etc etc etc.. But MOST dj's are not!! I go as far as posting Carl Cox using Traktor with his 4 CDJ's synced up and it don't matter.. It is just a setting that I'm sure Pioneer can update fairly easy. Thanks.
