[SOLVED] "Wide" pitch range when using USB

Any reason why the CDJ-850 won't go into "Wide" pitch range when using USB sticks? Its functional with CD's but there's no option when using USB sticks.

I don't really see how that affects the capability of the player to function correctly. Even so this isn't a monumental change in the function of the player, if it can read cds and manage to use HID with serato I have a hard time believing that updating the firmware to allow for Wide pitch range when using a Pioneer designed software with a Pioneer player should be that much of a difference for the processing power.

These are 900 dollar decks, that is more expensive then a lot of high end computers.

While I appreciate the attempt at humor. You can't honestly believe that is an appropriate response to this. Pioneer has one of the worst reputations for customer service, comments like that don't help matters get resolved...

So basically you're saying that proper functionality despite advertising and promoting a product with this feature is not ever going to be possible? Why would Pioneer who is developing a software that is supposed to "help people move away from using cds" only incorporate features that are possible with cds? I don't buy that response. This doesn't seem like a monumental fix, and should be a relatively simple. Especially considering the capability of the processor to manage HID software control, changing the parameters of the player to do +100 rather than just +16 doesn't strike me as requiring any extra processing power at all.

2 points I will comment on, Not that I am disagreeing with you alex

  1. """"Especially considering the capability of the processor to manage HID software control""""

I doubt it takes much processing power to run HID so that point is irrelevant. There are $50 controllers that run HID just fins, HID/MIDI is just simple on off commands pretty much and requires VERY little processing power to do so

  1. """"changing the parameters of the player to do +100 rather than just +16 doesn't strike me as requiring any extra processing power at all.""""

It requires a lot of extra power, MP3 files need to be decoded on the fly, the faster you play them, the harder it is for the player to keep up to decode on the fly. This is why cd's (for this player) work better for WIDE range.

The 850 is more or less the budget player for the line of CDJ's so I guess they cannot add the power and memory at this cost to handle all the features a $1500 deck can

and not for nothing, but that info is clearly listed in the product info on their site so it's not like they were hiding this from you

  • Equipped with Auto Beat Loop, which automatically sets up a loop of the beat when the button is pressed.
  • Four levels of settings can be made for a maximum variation range of a song’s tempo—, ±6%, ±10%, ±16% and WIDE*.
  • ●Equipped with our Resume function, so when a disc is removed and later reloaded, it returns to the previous state.
  • ●Excellent vibration-resistance thanks to its Shock-Proof Memory and Floating Architecture.

* WIDE only works with music CDs. Music files such as MP3, AAC, WAV and AIFF can be set in 3 levels, ±6%, ±10%, ±16%.

Fair enough I did take a look in the manual booklet and they do clearly state that. However it is quite misleading that they advertise that on the web and wait till after the purchase to disclose the limitations of the functionality. This isn't a deal breaker for the player, but is quite surprising since lesser quality players developed years before the 850 from other brands have this functionality at a fraction of the price.

@Alex > I'm sorry you are disappointed in the functionality but the intention certainly wasn't to mislead anyone with the advertising. Limitations of functionality vary from person to person so its impossible to include all this data in advertisements and why it would be disclosed in the manual.

I'll take this one on the chin. This comes down to my research though it isn't easy to find the info about it.
