[SOLVED] Headphones on jogwheel

When I don't use my headphones I often put them on my turntables, but when I have records spinning very often I put them on the jog wheels of my CDJ2000nxs.

Some guy told me not to do that because the magnets will damage the CDJ. Being skeptic in nature (and being an engineer as well...) I had a look at the manual and didn't find anything about it. The magnets in normal dynamic DJ headphones are not huge and I doubt that they can damage anything inside a CDJ. I don't know which type of encoder is used by the cdj2000 jogwheekl (optic? magnetic?) but I've never noticed anything funny happening with the headphones laying on the jogwheel, so I suspect that even if the encoder is magnetic the field from the headphones is so weak that doesn't interfere with it.

Any experience/toughts/statement about it? Would be interesting to hear something from Pioneer. There's nothing in the manual so it should not be an issue, but I'm curious :)

As long as you don't put the headphones down on the Jog Dial of the track that's playing... you should be ok- I've been doing it for years (not every gig but the 4-8 hour extended ones- need headphone break sometimes). I never heard of anyone having a magnetic weakness issue as a result of the headphones- but let's see if Pulse or Gavin know something we don't :D

the platters are raised via 3 tiny springs, the constant pressure of the headphone (or any weight) could cause the springs to wear down which in return will cause the platter to always think you have pressure on it and in VINYL mode will constantly stop for no reason or cause a spin back when simply trying to do a pitch bend

BriChi gives a good reason to not put stuff on the platter, yes definitely the weight can damage the springs, it's not some magical magnetic interaction it's just good old gravity :)

Though the headphones are very light (at least mine, I have the usual sennheiser hd25) and I suspect they can't do much harm to the springs.

Tasos, I also have a squeaky toy pig that I like to see spinning on the turntable when I mix. But when I use vinyl I need to put it on the cdjs too. What about the squeaky pig?

I always put the headphones on the mixer lol. But when not in use i tend to leave silly things on the CDJ

Headphones, mobile ect... But they have the decksavers on them so i presume they'll be alright

@wesley > Decksavers are definitely a good idea when not in use. I was in a club several years ago and do you know what I saw resting on their DVJ1000 jogs? CDJ1000s.
