[CLOSED] Rekordbox 3 causing CDJ-850 to crash yet AGAIN

Just updated Rekordbox to version 3 and once again, it is causing my decks to crash. After a couple of track changes the browser becomes unresponsive, eventually showing a spinning hourglass and 'please wait' on the screen. Back to 2.3 for me, which is a shame because Rekordbox 3 is really nice to use, just a pity that Pioneer have cocked it up yet again.

I beg to differ. Pioneer has done an amazing job creating this new version and through our beta tests, nobody ever complained about the software or its exports causing the players to become unresponsive. I'm thinking it has more to do with your device and the library therein. Can you give me a bit of info on the device? Did you previously use the same device with rekordbox 2.x? Did you format it prior to upgrading to 3.0?

Hello, thanks for the reply. I actually had this same issue last year. Rekordbox 2.2.3 fixed the issue for me (the fix was listed as a fix for the rekordbox.xml becoming corrupted). I have now rolled back to 2.2.3 and the issue didn't occur during an hour mix. Regarding the USB device, it is an HP v220w stick and i have been previously using it with Rekordbox 2.2.3 successfully and i always reformat the USB stick when changing versions. I think you are correct in stating it is a library issue, i have used a feature in Mixvibes Cross to export my collection as rekordbox.xml and then using that to import playlists in Rekordbox. There is definitely some kind of corruption going on, as i stated previously, this was already a problem last year and was fixed.

We did see an issue with XML files during the testing but it seemed to be resolved. Let me check in with the engineers on this one and we'll get back - they may need additional information or perhaps your export database. Thanks for your patience!

Ok thank you for that, i look forward to hearing back. In the meantime, i have rolled back to 2.2.3, it is much more useable for me.

Just to point out, i did notice a couple of other teething troubles with Rekordbox 3. I analysed 45 tracks all at once and the analysis missed drawing the waveforms on 50% of the tracks. Re selecting and analysing them fixed it. Also, when i ejected my USB stick from within Rekordbox, the software failed to pick up my second USB stick when i plugged it in. These are more minor issues though, the.xml problem is a big one because it means i can't play from USB.

It could simply have been a problem with the database, if re-scanning built the waveforms, that's likely what it was. As for the USB drive not being recognized - did the system recognize it (as opposed to the program not seeing it)?

Thats the thing, there was no database. When i installed Rekordbox 3, i completely erased all traces of 2.2.3 then used the .xml bridge function, in Rekordbox 3, to import a new 45 track playlist. 50% of the tracks did not analyse properly, so i reanalysed them to get the waveform data.

I'm using OSX 10.8.5 and am quite clinical when it comes to removing/installing software.

As for the USB stick not being recognised, it did not show up in the software or by the system and the system didn't pick it up until i quit the Rekordbox software which is odd.

These are just minor issues though, the main problem is the USB sticks making the decks freeze.

Please let me know if the engineers require any files, i can reinstall Rekordbox 3 and recreate the same data quite easily, it was just one playlist.

Thanks for your time :)

Just to clarify, when you uninstalled 2.x, did you ALSO remove the database? That's not a typical part of the uninstall process.

Re: the USB drive, after quitting and the drive showed up, were you able to re-open rekordbox to see it?

When i uninstall i delete the app from applications, i also delete files from /User/Library and /User/Library/ApplicationSupport , and also /User/Library/Preferences and finally /var/db/receipts.

I think thats all the locations that Rekordbox writes to in OSX, it sometimes varies with different versions of Rekordbox.

The USB problem i had with Rekordbox 3 was that my 2nd stick would not show up. Even after quitting Rekordbox, the system didn't pick up the stick immediately (a very rare occurrence for me). Once the stick was detected, Rekordbox also detected it with no problem.

I should add that i did try the same procedure, with the USB sticks, twice. I had the same results both times. I've also tested the same sticks on my system away from Rekordbox and they seem to work fine.

Any news? Its been over a week. I'm seeing quite a lot of problems in the Rekordbox forum that could be related to the same thing.

Sorry, you provided me with all the other stuff you have removed, but didn't answer if you'd removed the database, located at:

Yes I did remove the database, I did mention that different versions write to slightly different locations. I should have been more clear.

I've spent some time testing Rekordbox properly and i can definitely say it is not an .xml issue. I have an imported playlist working correctly and with all imported cues intact. When i reformatted and exported to my USB sticks, this time around it corrupted the opposite USB stick.

My problem appears to be based around the fact that Rekordbox 3 does not detect the 2nd USB stick properly. Once the first stick is ejected it takes 5 or 6 attempts to get Rekordbox to detect the second stick. Even once detected the second USB stick will have problems such as not ejecting properly. Closing Rekordbox and getting the system to recognise the second stick before restarting Rekordbox seems to work, although it is still a bit laggy. Using the sticks away from Rekordbox causes no issues whatsoever and the sticks are detected by the system almost instantly. I read in the Rekordbox forum that USB sticks that haven't been ejected properly can become corrupted.

For now, i am working round the issue by exporting to first USB, quitting Rekordbox 3, inserting second USB so system detects it, ejecting second stick, restart Rekordbox 3, insert second USB stick so Rekordbox 3 detects it, export to second USB.

I'm just wondering if my problem is unique or whether other people have it too? It would be nice to get it fixed, the Rekordbox 3 software is a huge improvement over previous versions but it is a pain to use at the moment.

Engineers hope to include a fix for this in an upcoming release of rekordbox 3. Thanks for your patience!
