Overall, the unit feels solid, controls are firm. I noticed that certain features seem to have a lag (dropping hot cues as samples, for example) when quantize is on, which is somewhat expected behavior, but it just 'feels' a bit slower than a 2k. Might be my imagination, will fiddle with it more. Scratching the platter seems plenty tight with no perceptible wander. Next test here will be side by side with one of my 2k's plugged into the line input and roll through a mix that way to see how they really compare.
Recording to wav files feature is nifty. So, tell me how to set the clock and date for time stamping. The same applies to the History playlist time stamps. The thing thinks it is January 1 2014. I did not see a time setting in the Utility menu. Speaking of recording, there is nothing on the display to indicate amount of time recorded, and time remaining on the stick. The only indication a recording is taking place is the blinking REC light.
In general, I find the live view waveforms distracting. I'd like a setting where I can select the default screen behavior to be either Browse or Waveform. The track profiles in the deck windows are fine, they show the cues and all, and I spend a fair amount of time searching for tracks, and setting the default to Browse would save annoying button presses. The behavior is more like a 2000 classic, while the RX behaves more like a Nexus.
Master Tempo seems to be similar in quality as a Nexus, and better than a 2000 classic. I need to try it on some D&B to make sure.
Color Effects: Noise and Filter...really would like a resonance setting in the Utility menu for these. Personally feel that both Noise and Filter have a little too much cray cray, though there are some times were peaking works well.
Jog wheel sensitivity: Control response feels too hot IMO. It might be because I'm used to big wheels. But if I pull the same beat matching corrections like my 2k's, I've overshot the goal rather than land on a pin head. In any case, it'd be nice to have a Utility setting for response (say 100 counts in a range of +/- 50%?). That way folks can set it to their personal taste.
Missing that Pan knob, and there was plenty of room over there in Booth and Master land, LOL... Okay, here's a little compromise: Upgrade the Trans effect to include a ping-pong option (configurable in the Utility menu to give folks a choice). I'd just leave it in ping-pong mode.
The beast is pretty damn big. For pop-up gigs, I will need to fashion a carrier to fit around the mixer and/or decks. The layout is pretty relaxed, it could have been made more compact, but that display is really nice...I would not want to give that up (unless you shrunk this thing with two OLED displays representing the deck windows onto an AERO sized widget. Still, this RX will be in my kit for a while...first time a new piece of Pioneer gear will make it past the trial period in an age. Well done.
V1.5 firmware, btw...
