XDJ RX Freezes on certain playlists

Hi guys!

I've got my Pioneer XDJ RX for about two weeks now and from the beginning I'm experiencing problems for certain playlists. When I load one of those specific playlists the player freezes entirely, forcing me to switch it off and on again to get it running again.

I've updated te players firmware to 1.6, I've updated rekordbox to 3.2.2, I've fromatted my USB-stick and put the playlists back on it, I've tried different USB-sticks and I even had the opportunity to try another XDJ RX but nothing solved the problem. Pioneer BeNeLux told me it has something to do with corrupted files, but today I created a new playlist with all legitimate files and the player froze even on that playlist...

I'm getting pretty desperate because this really sucks for a player costing 1500 euro's and it makes it almost impossible to use it...

Anybody who can help me out?

theres nothing you can really do other then wait for a FW update at this point or maybe try redoing the playlists that freeze and narrow it down to maybe a certain track in the playlist causing it. Freezing while browsing has been reported but seems like its still an issue

1- how many songs are in the playlist?
2- are they all CBR mp3's? or VBR mp3's?
3- have you tried using pro link instead of with usb's to see if the playlist would work that way?

I can't narrow it down because the files work well in Rekordbox... The playlists contain to much tracks to recreate track by track, to discover which ones cause the problem and in addition to that: I've just got to many playlists. I've been DJ-ing with rekordbox for over 2 years now and never had this kind of problems on CDJ-2000 (nexus) with these playlists... I really hope Pioneer will fix this anytime soon, like REALLY SOON, because I can't use my player for shows, and that was where I bought it for in the first place... It just feels like a shit investment now. Even 4 months after it's release it's not a stable player :(

@Anthony

1 - I have to check that when I'm home. Could be around 100 for some playlists...
2 - I didn't know there where different Bit Rate encoding for MP3 and that this could cause problems. How can I check this and which encoding is preferable?
3 - I have not, whilst typing my previous reply I thought of trying that. Will try when I get home and have the chance...

1 - the RX claims that it can only handle up to 1000 tracks per playlist so you should be good there.

2 - Yup there is, and the RX has a history of not playing nice with VBR mp3's.... they have done updates in the past to fix most of the major problems with them but you never know.

3 - I once tried exporting my entire collection to an external HD and the RX does not even attempt to read it (66,000ish tracks LOL) So I have to bring my macbook with me to gigs and use pro link. and it works perfect!

as far as "2", thats a lot of the Pioneer products, Both CDJ-2000's choke on VBR's, I had to convert all my VBR's (not too many fortunately) to CBR so I would know the deck would not freeze playing them. Even when you download from iTunes they used to be (or some still are) VBR so i convert quick before I play it

I have never had issues on CDJ2000... But how can I check my tracks on VBR? And why does the player freeze entirely when I load the playlist if it has issues loading a certain type of MP3. I don't even load a track and it just jams... It just looks like poor manufacturing/programming to me, with no proper error-handling.. Which I didn't expect from a brand like Pioneer

if you enable the "Bitrate" column in RB it shows if a track is something like 320 or a VBR
also in apps like iTunes if you get the file info it will show if its a normal bitrate like 192, 256, 320, etc... vs a VBR that would be an off number like 241 for example
I can't see a VBR file in a playlist though causing the player to freeze when simply browsing playlists, check the forum, the deck freezes period from a lot of different scenarios from tracks, usb drive types, whether you wear your headphone on the left or right ear and so on, lol

you are right though if it freezes before you load anything then its probably not a VBR mp3 problem...... sounds so strange that it would freeze like this..

I bet using pro link with a laptop at your gigs will be the solution for now, I can feel it! Its gonna work!!!

@Pulse > No, I haven't

It happens with different songs, different playlist, or even while loading from the collection.

When loading the song a next time, nothing is wrong.

It happens with different sources: USB-sticks, Prolink with HP laptop with RB 4.1.1, Prolink Toshiba laptop with RB 3.3 testversion you once gave me. Prolink both thru wireless router or direct cable.

I've updated Firmware, Drivers, formatted flashdrives twice with the HP formatting tool. Checked all the drives / sticks for errors.

When the problem occurs there is a USB stick in the right USB2 slot recording. ( It Always is ).

I just started to mark the the songs with a tag, to make a list, to see if i can find any simularities between the songs.

Until now the only simularity that i noticed was this: They all have "0%" in the first colum, instead of the "cue"symbol. However that is the case in 2/3 of the whole collection.

( Very curious how that could happen, because all my tracks were annalysed at least twice. Once while importing ( full ) and after that once more for key detection. )

However, so far, that the only similarity I've noticed. Could this be something ?
