XDJ-RX Firmware 1.8 wish-list

Hi there,

cause XMAS is coming there are some wishes for the next firmware release 1.8:

  1. deck load lock
  2. RGB waveforms
  3. beat countdown
  4. beat shift
  5. playlist/category search
  6. search shortcut
  7. instant search

ad 1.
you know what I mean

ad 2.
please use the full color waveforms from Rekordbox 4.0 rather than these blue ones, would be very useful

ad 3.
if there is a cuepoint in the track please show the beat-countdown until reaching it, no matter if I've set the cue point via Rekordbox or directly on the XDJ-RX

ad 4.
Implement a beat length jump from the current position e.g. 4 beats to the left or right. This could be done by either pressing SHIFT plus TRACK SEARCH buttons, or e.g. by pressing SHIFT plus Pitch bend (outer section of the jog dial)

ad 5.
implement a way to search within a playlist or a selected category (rather than through the whole library) using a new entry in the context menu by pressing MENU (UTILITY) button

ad 6.
When browsing and searching for tracks using the SEARCH category how about a shortcut for confirming the search process by pressing SHIFT plus the rotary selector without the need to go to the far right and select “search now”

ad 7.
When typing in some letters please show the result on the fly without the need to go to the far right and select “search now”

Cheers,
Volker

Just a note, wish-lists are great, but don't hang your hat on having them all included in the next update (or ever) due to limitations in hardware.

I've received word that the next XDJ-RX firmware (1.8) will be available next week!

The biggest thing missing from this list, especially since the XDJ-RX doesn't support a usb hub or keyboard for pulling up tracks quickly is a 2-step search option. (i.e. pull up tracks by two criteria, like year and bpm, or genre and bpm, for example.)

Good list. Would like to see all of that in a new firmware update.
One thing missing is a correction of the quantize feature. It should snap to the nearest beat also if you hit a button late and should not snap to the next beat.

I like that, too. Although, I'm getting used to mixing without Quantize on (only using it to create cue points on the fly). One more thing I feel would be nice (if possible) is having the XDJ-RX (or Rekordbox?) add "silent time" to the beginning of each track, so that if you want to scratch the first beat in, you can see it visually on the wave form (not just on the platter).

Especially 2,3,4 and making quantize actually behave like a quantizer would be really useful.

Pre-roll cueuing (the ability to set a que before the start of the track data) would be extremely useful. Currently, I have to edit silence into the beginning of a track to make this happen...a multi-step process and quite a pain in the ass.

A little note on point 2.
I do like RGB waveform - but only from colors perspective.
IMHO how waveform is actually rendered, the old way for me was much better.
There is no obvious distinction between loud and quiet parts anymore. At least I don't see it (talking about RB4).

Waveforms were much better before the new version, regardless of the color itself....

lol, and the corollary to that, Pulse, is "to not ask is to not get"

You're certainly welcome to ask, I just want to remind you that we get a lot of inquiries for features that are so out-of-this-world that they would never get included on DJ gear EVER, and others that are simply required (eg. locking the active player), so while it's great that ideas and comments are made, they're not always able to be implemented, or added in a timely manner.

Nice open discussion here!
I fully understand that there are limitations to the hardware. But I still think there needs some work to be done with the navigation through files on the XDJ-RX. For my understanding it doesn't have to do too much with hardware, rather with the gui.
E.g. A kind of 2-step search could easily be realised if the left category shown could be selected and not always be "track".
Genereally I think the display could fit 3 criteria of information, especially if on is "bpm". Without the little bpm logo in front and "bpm" in letters after the value it would especially be possible.
Thanks for caring.

Nice list.
Nothing to add at this point, other than I got mine yesterday, and totally gutted I didn't take today off work! Done 2 cracking set on it already, and I'm not even that good at this mixing thing yet.
(Training mode would be cool - to hide the BPM, that sort of thing) :)
Keep up the good work Pioneer.

One more thing, if possible. Allowing the beat grid (in Rekordbox?) to be adjusted below 70 BPM. Why is this the lowest setting? I don't want to adjust the DJ math I've known for all eternity! I have many tracks just below 70 BPM (no, not 138...69!). Would this even be possible? (expanding that allowed range.)

@Adam > Look in the settings... you can go as low as 48BPM.

Thanks for sharing that, but why would this even be a "setting?" It should allow 48-255 no matter what! (or unlimited, 0-?). Do I need to do this for each song that isn't within the default perameters? Or is this a range that applies to the collection? {who came up with these range options and why?}

The closer the range, the more accurate the detection.
