CDJ 2000 firmware 4.04 pitch not same as 4.01

I ve noticed that in ver 4.04 when two tracks are at in the same pitch are not locked as it used to be in ver 4.01 when mixed for a "long" time . Have you noticed it ? or is it my mind playing games ?

@DubLN Electronically produced music is produced at a constant BPM, but idk, for whatever reasons, Ill analyze a track and its like 128.21 or some stupid number like that. And when I play my tunes which are dynamically analyzed, the BPM obviously changes through out the track... which it shouldn't be changing since EDM should be dead perfect all the way through, but doesnt seem that way =/

I have just purchased some cdj2000's this week and I am glad its not just me thats having this problem. Is there any way to solve this issue ? its doing my nut in lol, I had cdj 1000's before hand and not had an issue with locking 2 tracks together but on these decks they seem to drift apart on MT after 30 sec or more at the same tempo, not good :-(

Surprised the mods haven't chimed in yet as there's some pretty fundamental questions being asked about this FW and the BPM calculations.

What i'd like clarity is below;

Normal / Dynamic - what is the overall difference when playing EDM in relation to beat matching ?

Should two tracks analysed in RB showing the EXACT BPM reading simply lock together when playing at the same tempo ?

MT - clearly still useless when are we going to get a proper update to fix the issue ?

As I said in another thread -- I'm curious as to how far from 0% you guys are mixing because I played for over 10 hours on four CDJ2000's using 4.04 this week and had no problem mixing tracks for 3-5 minutes with zero effort, with and without MT on in various combinations.  I'm typically within 4%.

About  the same mate, no more than +/-3% on 6/10% pitch. I have only just got these decks and it is already annoying more as this shouldn't be happening. I got them and update straight from 3.0 to 4.04 so I can't state what the older firmware before this new one was like. Dunno what to do ? is it worth calling Pioneer ?

Same here, I only use .wavs that I purchased from beatport and have everything analyzed in normal mode.  It almost sounds like the tempo is like a roller coster going up and down.  Then when I actually adjust the tempo in a mix it seems like it lags for 10 to 20 seconds before the tempo adjusts its self.

Spent some time away but Im back to the forum.

I totally agree with you guys! I also noticed some problems with MT. That should be a red flag priority to Pioneer now since the problem is not brand new. About the 4.04 problem... I really don't know if it gets worse. Im still using 4.01 and from what I've red here I'll keep it for now!

In my oppinion Pioneer engineers must have the tools to test all we are talking about... and everything said here should be seriously considered since its not a problem related by just one person. I never used mk3's before since I'm brand new in digital music world and till around one year ago a total vinyl freak. But its really sad to have such equipment now and see guys talking better stuff about mk3's... I thought I bought the top ones!

So nothing new here, same old MT problems people have been complaining about for a while. I'm still optimistic Pioneer will correct it one day.

The issue has been elevated to a support ticket however the engineers have reported that there were no changes made to the code for the master tempo in the latest (4.04) release.  I asked above what % you are typically finding these problems occurring, if you could provide that information it would be more beneficial than simply complaining.

I am only going up to the max of +/-4% pitch on 10+- tempo range and it happens when ever I engage MT on both decks, even zero pitch to zero pitch. I have also tried it on 6 +- tempo range and it does the same thing on MT.

I think the perceived change between 4.01 and 4.04 is a misdirection.  Asking about issues introduced between the 2 most recent versions will result in an easy ticket closure - as we are told there were none.  The main issue is MT since day dot.  Even though enhancements have been made, it is still an ugly issue.

I am now playing anything between 114BPM and 130BPM therefore I do probably go beyond +/- 4%. I always use 6+/- tempo range.

I still would like people's thoughts on how tight the players play tracks that are the same BPM in RB without MT switched on because I do find the drifting still occurs. Personally using 1210's for me is no more difficult than using the CDJ2000's which I thought shouldn't be the case.  I would like them to lock more effectively than they do at present irrespective of master tempo.

I don't have a problem with drift, when MT is off.  I'm happy with how RB and the CDJs manage the BPM detection and looping etc.

What you might want to watch out for is the CDJ-2000 "Twitchy-Pitch".  A number of us have noticed that the pitch/pitch slider is so sensitive that it's very prone to changing by +/-0.02%, without physically being touched.  This is most obvious when mixing 2 tracks with the exact same BPM.  So when 2 tracks with the same BPM are being mixed, if you notice it starting to drift slightly, check that the pitches are infact identical - it wouldn't surprise me if one had slipped by a single increment.

when MT is off I am finding they do lock in the mix, but a few times as Mark has mentioned I did notice that the pitch on one of the cdj's had moved down by a 0.05% on 10 ptich, so its one to look out for.

So if this "drifting" occurs more often on the +/-10% than on the +/-6% range (MT off), that's definitely due to the pitch slider sensitivity. Worth testing to check this possibility.

Not sure I've seen that to be honest. I'll give the higher increment level a try to see if it improves.

I'm really sad Pulse closed the other thread saying it was "too repetitive". Trying to block people from exchanging their experiences, trying to show a problem and more, trying to verify if everybody is having the same.... well its at least antidemocratic and antiethic.

Is this forum here just to say good stuff about Pioneer products or to try solving problems too???? Are we allowed to really say what is happening to our expensive decks or are we just supposed to pretend everything is fine????

Here is the answer Pioneer gave me for my ticket. Of course they didn't even look at the problem. I didn't up to 4.04 cause ppl say its way more ****ed up than 4.01 and I sent them the links so they could check what ppl are saying about it.

We are customers and should be treated like being so. Besides all the drifting problems (with or without MT) we also have to face actions like Pulse arbritary closing threads and Pioneer giving answers like this one above:

"TICKET RECEIVED: 06/29/2011 03:04:38 p.m.

TICKET COMPLETED: 06/29/2011 03:04:38 p.m.

RESOLUTION:

Thank to prefer us

Dear Mr. Pereira

Refer your concer we recommend that you need to download the version 4.04

and then to test should correct the problem.

Any question feel free to ask.

Best Regards,

Shame on you Pioneer!!!

@Cello > I redirect your "shame on you" back at you for suggesting I'm just closing threads at my own whim.  I closed the other thread because it was a repeat of what was going on here.  You may certainly discuss the issues at hand, but there's no sense in having two threads with identical issues when we only need one -- and this one has a ticket already open with the engineers.

For your edification, the engineers are not located in Pioneer's Latin American service department; they're in Japan, and in direct communication with us via the ticket system in this forum -- not the ticket you submitted to support in Latin America

"Identical" but at the other thread ppl were already sending tickets to Pioneer and posting the results, which is not the case over here. So closing there cuts a lot of information people were exchanging.

If engineers are located in Japan theres no sense in opening any ticket directly through Pioneers website since each one will be redirected to the local Pioneer and not to Japan (unless they are Japanese). So are we all just waisting our time when we open tickets in our local Pioneer pages (since everybody is automatically redirected to the loal one)? Will that ones never get to the engineers?? If its so Pioneers website should just direct everybody to this forum and give an advice to beg you to do something about it (since youre the one that decides what does and what doesnt reach the engineers right?).

@Cello > You can still "send tickets to Pioneer" (aka. contact technical support) as much as you'd like.  When contacting technical support, you are directed to do so within your own country / region.  Those tickets are not part of this system; they are Pioneer's internal support ticket system and are dealt with within that country / region.

You don't need to come here to "beg" for anything.  Myself and the other agents are here to provide user-level support and answers.  If there is an issue we feel is beyond our assistance (or that of the community), then we create a ticket which is sent directly to the engineers.

The other closed thread is, indeed, close enough to merit not requiring two threads.  If you think you'd do a better job of moderating these forums, I'm certainly welcome to pointing out all your flaws too.

Threads are indeed the same so fine that the other is closed (I started it). Further: I think it starts to be a bit childisch at this forum. we are talking about a major problem which is adressed to the engineers and they are working on it. Don't get me wrong I am very dissapointed about the CDJ 2000 and the latest firmware but I am pretty sure pioneer will fix the issue. I cant imagine Carl cox with 6 drifting players.... cheers!

@Pulse > are saying you have never had any drifting issues on any cdj 2000's you have used using the master tempo ? and you have sent this ticket to the engineers so what next, have you got to wait to hear back from them, are they going to investigate this issue further  ?

@Marc > Thanks for your comments.

@Plasticman > The engineers have already replied that it is being investigated.  I do keep tabs on the tickets that I submit (as I'm notified anytime anything happens on them).  As well, I'll be in Japan in 10 days at which point I'll discuss the outstanding issues with the engineers directly to ensure that they are clear on the problems.

Personally, I haven't noticed any issues -- as posted above:

I played for over 10 hours on four CDJ2000's using 4.04 this week and had no problem mixing tracks for 3-5 minutes with zero effort, with and without MT on in various combinations.

@Pulse well hopefully they can sort this issue out in the next firmware and I can get some cdj's that work properly. Thanks for the reply

I'm not upgrading to 4.04 due to the the negative comments .

Im just trying to guess : if the players behave so badly in normal playing, what is happening if we use 4 beats loop button ? The situation is not getting really  bad when using short loops ?  One of the advantages of  digital players is the easiness of using loops and keeping them in sync .  What is happening now with our "industry standard" and very expensive players ? we shall be happy to stay in sync just for a few seconds ?

Maybe cdj1000 mk3 were industry standard.

CDJ2000  came up with something new but totally unprofessional . what are the advantages ? Pioneer is trying to keep it up with more secure and reliable dj products (traktor), but provided just junk new features which  takes years to improve them and work as it shold.

Pulse do u remember when i first reported about the 1 frame loop ?  Only now the problem was been solved (as i read in the firmware 4.04 description), after more than 1 year since reported and 2,5 years since cdj come out on the market. Now i avoid the new firmware because another problem came out, solving one and other comes out.

Sad

Pioneer's global advertising manager (if there is one) is making a very good job. He's earnings shall be 99999 times higher than of the Japanese engineers  .

Hi Kyle. Dont get me wrong but ver 4.04 works for me too. But if you also mixed in ver 4.01 or previous firmware versions I think you can see the difference in the pitch in ver 4.04 comparing with previous versions. You can understand this difference even more if you own two cdj2000s at home and use them almost every day for suveral hours than just one night in weekend in a club. And from my experience and mixing skills this difference/change in the new firmware is not better than the previous versions.

The worst part of all is that pionneer doesnt know about it which means when the progmmers fixed the update, this issue came due to other corrections they did in ver 4.04. What I m saying is that they fixed a bug and by fixing this bug, another new bug came on top. This is what I think and it is worrying me a lot...

I hope someone from the lads here in the forum who are admins, report it to pionneer technicians so that they investigate it and maybe, maybe some day we see a proper update for these expencive piece of equipment.
