Wanted to make a thread on what i would like to see on either the current cdj or the future cdjs. Feel free to add any of your wish list. I do not own the cdj 2000 nexus yet I am waiting till all the bugs get fixed, so i'll will only comment on what I would want as far as updates and features in future cdjs.
- Update the cdj 2000 nexus or the future cdjs with the quanitze on the fly needle jump feature. Been asking for this for a couple years now, hope this feature does not get over looked. This would allow the user to utilize the needle search to jump any where in the track and stay in beat. There should be two modes to utilize this feature one being snap mode which would allow the user to touch the needle strip and the track will jump instantly to that point. The second mode would be standard which would work when the user releases there finger off the needle strip.
Allow rekordbox to be incorperated in the cdjs itself. This would most likely be for future cdjs as it may need a internal hardware upgrade. This would allow on the fly track analyzing, so as soon as the user picks a track the cdj will analyze the track it should take 10-20 seconds max which would allow non analyzed tracks to have waveforms, beat grids, markers and measure counts. Measure counts would be utilized more for when using the quantize beat jump feature during standard mode when touching the needle strip a red line will pop up showing how many measures in the the track your at. Also in settings the user could use the cdjs to allow backround analyzing of the tracks. For instance if one where to connect a 32 gig usb or put in a cd it will analyze all the tracks in the backround while still analyzing the current track being used. The user can utilize waveform zooming and beatgrid adjusting to allow more tighter beatgrids on the fly.
Allow a remix mode which would essentially work either two ways. One being that one cdj can play a live track which the audience would only be able to hear while in remix mode this live track will play uninterrupted and the dj can stop, play rewind, fastforward, add hot cue's ect.. while not interrupting with the actual live track. The main function of remix mode is to allow the dj to jump anywhere in the track and remix a particular section. So lets say the user jumps 3 minutes into a track then remix a measure anywhere between 2-64 beats. The remix mode would utilize the needle strip to either beatslice the choosen measure or feedback loop essentailly remixing part of the track on the fly. Then when the user is happy with the results the dj can back out of remix mode and the live uninterrupted track can for this case reach the 3 minute mark and play the remix vs the original track. If the live track would pass up the mark that the user is trying to remix he can always back out of remix mode when the dj is done and utiize the quantize needle jump feature to go before or on the remix itself. There should be a safe mode when utiilizing this feature so when the live track is about to end the last 4-32 beats would loop automatically.
If this feature is not possible on one cdj itself then a work around would allow the dj to use doubles of a track so the right deck is what the audience is listening to while the same track is being edited on the second left deck so when adding hot cues and loops and remixes on the left deck it will automatically send the information to the right live deck and vice versa.
Allow an additional "D" hot cue button which would allow more loops and hot cues to be implemented.
Allow sample mode to go along with standard mode when using the hot cue buttons. So in standard mode the hot cue buttons would allow recording hot cues and loops but when the user switches in sample mode the buttons would save anwhere from 2-64 beats each button and it will store into the cdj itself. So even if you disconnect the cdj it will still save till you erase or dub over the samples. This is great for mobile djs to add acapellas and dj drops and scratch samples. This feature would also allow sampling live on the fly or just adding samples before hand. Essentially the user can take a track use up all the four hot cue's then switch to sample mode and allow the user to add samples so the user would have four hot cues and or loops along with 4 more samples to work with. Color should change from red hot cues to white for samples.
Allow more different colored waveform options to choose from. Also allow an editing feature so the user can customize anwhere in the track specific color codings for instance if the user would want breakdowns to be a diffrent color or have the drive of the track to have a different color ect.. This is more of a cool feature rather than a needed one. But I think djs would love this feature. Two modes can be used to utilize this feature one being automatic so the user can go to settings and say I want all breakdowns that are detected to be this color and so forth. The other mode would be manually editing the waveforms of each track within the cdjs.
I don't know how much more expensive it will be since the technology has been out for awhile but allowing mp4 playback to mix with videos would be ideal.
Allow the cdjs to change channels on your tv essentially becoming a universal remote control, also allow it to be a midi controller to do your laundry....nevermind I went to far....
