some very good points and i agree the searching needs to be tweaked, another idea I've thought of is when you search you should be able to hold down the circle selector/scroll knob for 2 seconds and then be dropped down onto the search results rather than having to select the return key

XDJ-RX search must change
I'm very happy with my RX, never seen a better controller than this one. But there's one thing I'm not happy about and that's the search-function.
1) It is slow, very slow! If you have f.e. a SSD on it with more than 10.000 songs than it takes ages to look up a song. And for those who are saying: 10.000 song? Yes, for an allround DJ it's normal.
2) Why can't you search in a playlist? Why do you have to go back to the front to go to 'search' and have to search through everything? I think this is easly fixable with a software-update.
3) When searched for something and you want to search again you have to delete the past search-command. Very frustrating.
So, the RX is a champ under the controllers, a real must-have for recordbox-users, but please Pioneer, do something about the search-function. Also maybe a little tip: When f.e. going to 'artists' then make sure you can scroll in both ways from the top (so you can go from A to Z in no time).

Pioneer has stated many times that the RX does not have enough memory to deal with a library exceeding 10k tracks, so yes, it will be slow...
Maybe this can be, but there are other ways then just count on the memory. For exemple: I have a playlist with music from the 80s and I have to search for a song from the 80s. Why should I have to search on the whole disk? If I just could search within that playlist then you already have a smaller list to search in. Or that you have to put in at least 3 characters before you can search and not after every character the wait-symbol. So there are many clever ways to deal with a lower memory.
I know just enough about the CDJ/XDJ architecture to be dangerous... These devices are considered embedded systems with limited processing and memory footprints, so It can't work in the way you suggest. Searchable fields for library and playlist are stored in a specialized embedded database, and due to memory constraints, that database has finite size (10k entries). If the number of tracks exceed that figure, then it appears to revert to a disk search which is quite slow when a USB2 interface is used (even if you uses a USB3 thumb, the hardware is only capable of USB2 speeds).
So if I limit my songs to < 10.000 the search will be faster? Will try that.
I tried exporting my entire collection (66,000ish songs) to a usb drive just for the heck of it and the RX won't even read it lol.. Ive been just using my macbook at gigs with Rekordbox. Searching is great this way + you have a keyboard!
I just got my XDJ-RX last week finally, and after playing with it at the DJ Times Expo in Atlantic City, I had some concerns about the functionality. I've been a Denon HD-2500 user since 2007 and since they abandoned their stand-alone technology, I've been waiting for a product like this. I have a ton of suggestions, but don't know if firmware updates will fix any of them. First, Denon's standalone technology allowed for a maximum of 50,000 files and 5,000 folders, so the Pioneer is only 1/5 the size of old tech. 2nd, without the ability to hook up a powered USB hub with multiple drives, or even a USB keyboard for fast searching was a no-no. 3rd, how about a 2-step search option for narrowing down tracks? I.E. search by year and BPM, or genre and BPM. Right now, the size isn't a major concern, however, these other features would almost make it the perfect solution!
