Hi. My spanking new Pioneer DJM S9 has arrived... all good but I have noticed that when I am playing a track and I activate a Serato DJ effect there is a slight glitch in the track before the effect comes in. Like the track sorta gets mistimed or shifted for a millisecond. It's obvious to the ear. Even when i turn down the level/depth the glitch can be heard. This does not happen with the Pioneer effects - they come on smooth. I contacted Serato and this was their response:
We are aware of this issue happening and have concluded that this is actually hardware dependent when it happens. We've brought the issue up with Pioneer and the ball is essentially in their court in terms of deciding where to proceed with this. I've added your information to the others complied and pass it onto Pioneer. In the mean time would recommend perhaps posting on the forums (both ours and Pioneer) to see if others are having the same issue and if it gets enough traction it might prompt Pioneer to look into this deeper.
Hope this helps, Regards Ian Wan, Product Specialist

Any resolution on this? It's been 7-8 months since my initial complaint.... every Serato effect activated on this mixer makes a glitch....
I regret to have bought a beta product.
I'm still waiting too... In my opinion with the new partnership between Serato and Roland I think they don't care anymore about pioneer... Bad for us who bought a faulty product...
Hello. Just following up to see if this issue was ever resolved? I recently bought a djm s9 and am noticing the same issue with the serato dj effects, which makes them unusable with this mixer. I love the mixer, but will be forced to return it to guitar center unless I find a solution soon.
I have tried swapping out the usb cable, adjusting the buffer, and tried it on 2 different laptops, with specs suitable for serato dj. I just updated the firmware and drivers to be current, and still no difference.
Please help!!!!
@Peter > Have you updated the firmware on the mixer?
Yes I have:
Firmware Version: 1.07
Utility Version: 1.032
Driver Version: 1.032
DLL Version: 1.032
I have tried on 2 different laptops. One running Windows 10 and the other running Windows 7. They are both beyond the specs required, and are both have the same issue.
Also, I am running Serato DJ Version 1.9.6. Thank you for the response.
has there been a solution to this problem? just bought my s9 and discovered this issue. running the lattest firmware and sdj.
hey i have the same problem
with sdj 1.9.9
and the frimware 1.08
it is so annoying :O
Unfortunately this issue is still under investigation between Pioneer DJ and Serato, and we don't have a timeline for any updates right now. Sorry!
is there a way to disable the effects insert? I would like to use my serato fx chain and with the insert enabled im stuck with only my hardware fx.
So is there a posibility that i can have my Money back ?
I Need a working mixer and the
Mixer is 1 year old But i dont want to wait ages until its Finally works.
I unterstand that it is Not that easy to find the bug but i paid a lot of Money
Thank you Sven
I had not heard back so I returned the mixer and will wait for the Rane 72 which will be out soon. I loved the DJM S9, but I could not justify keeping it with this bug being unresolved this long. It seems like a core function of the mixer, and I don't feel that Pioneer has a solution coming anytime soon.
Hey Pioneer we're still waiting... is there a fix? If not, i'd like to return the mixer for a refund...
Is this still unanswered?
Sold my S9 primarily based on this issue. Grabbed a 72. It has no issues w the software fx.
Both the Serato DJ and Pioneer DJ teams are working to improve the functionality, but for now, the best thing to do is lower the audio buffer as low as possible without experiencing any other audio drop-outs / clicks / pops.
So my brand new S9 arrived today with the same issue. Even with the buffer set to 1ms it happens. My Rane SL3 & Pioneer SP1 on the other hand are totally fine triggering Serato FX so it's not my laptop at fault.
What's even more shocking is Pioneer haven't fixed it in other 2 years. I rang the UK technical support line and the first thing the guy said to me was that he'd never even heard of the S9 before, didn't fill me with confidence.
My S9 is going back to the store I bought it from tomorrow. F%*k paying £1459 for something this broken!
I spoke with a technician from Serato support in the last 2 months because I encountered the same problem following the purchase of a DJM S9.
They worked on the problem at the design office.
Official answer from serato : After some digging, regarding the issues you are expected to perform, this is due to the Serato FX mixing through the channels before output. The transition from On / Off triggers this duck to avoid a delay through the headphones.
At this point the issue has been raised, however there are no plans for this to be changed.
Hey guys, do you have an update of solving this issue? I am having the same problem.
I've purchased 2 weeks ago a DJM S9. I'm running SDJ Pro 2.0.2 on a Mac 2017 with High Sierra. Attached you find also the firmware version of the S9.
The issue that I am having, is that by activating the Serato FX, no matter which one, I get a short cut of the sound. Even if you use i.e. Reverb and the level of it is on 0 (zero), by activating the effect, I still get a slight cut of the sound / glitch. Apart from that, I've noticed that running SDJ-Pro for couple of hours, the beat setting of the effects changes by itself, i.e. I have the effects set on "1 beat" and they change at the "1/2 beat". On the screen is still as 1 beat the setting to see, but the sound output is not!
Using the same SDJ Pro Version with the same Mac, but with a controller DDJ-SR the Serato FX work fine as well as with a Rane SL2 in combination with a DDJ SP1 with DVS.
Any updates / news to the issue?
Pioneer don't care. That's why this ticket has been left open for 3 years. I moved on and bought a Rane 72 that has zero issues with Serato FX. Rane have much better customer support too.
I had my S9 for over a year and I just started having this issue when I updated the firmware and went from serato DJ to serato DJ Pro newest version..I get the weird glitch when the fx button is pushed along with the parameter button what makes it worse is the whole mixer locks up serato is frozen until I unplug my S9 ,turn it off and back on plug it back in to laptop and its working again but that settle feedback glitch is still there and soon as I hit the fx button the whole process is repeated. I need answers cause I tried everything, I updated serato ,drivers, firmware, and even upgraded RAM in laptop and new usb cord. HELP!!!
@Jason > Unfortunately this FX glitch is a very case-specific issue that not all computer + hardware + software configurations will encounter. It has proven to be rather difficult for the Serato and Pioneer DJ teams to nail down. Our recommendation is to use the lowest possible latency setting (without having any other adverse audio issues).
As for the freezing, if the software freezes but the audio continues, it sounds like a software problem - you may wish to file a support ticket with Serato for additional assistance.
Hey Pioneer just checking in to see if you have fixed this issue yet. Is there somewhere i can go in Sydney Australia to have it resolved.
Has this bug been fixed, I'm having the same issue?

@Pulse > Since this is a potentially hardware glitch, which seems like it is, are you able to send me a different unit to do further testing?
Can people on this thread if still active can confirm that this is the issue you were experiencing?
I can confirm that is the issue. I ended up buying a Rane 72 instead.
