E-8709 error

Hi

I just got a set of CDJ-350s that were purchased a couple of years ago, but used for a week and then never touched again. These are in perfect condition and I used them with USBs for about a week, everything was working perfectly.

I wanted to use these with Traktor, so downloaded all the software/drivers for the decks, and also updated the firmware to the latest version (1.13). When updating, it is meant to show DOWNLOADING - old versions number => new version number.

Where its suppose to show the new version number 1.13, it was blank - but still completed the firmware.

Now when I turn on the decks, they go straight to E-8709 message, and I am unable to work with them.

Is there anything I can do to reset the devices, as clearly something has gone wrong when updating the firmware??? I did it step by step as per the manual, so am very upset that this has caused my decks to crash.

Thanks

Josh

Download the firmware again using a browser that is NOT Safari. Unzip the file, then copy the UPD file to the USB drive. It doesn't have to be empty, it just can't have another UPD file on it at the root.

I've just realized that when I was updating the firmware, the USB stick I used was not empty. Could this have caused the problem?

sounds like a communications error or a corrupt file.  Can you try to update the fw again? I would recommend you download it again and use the fresh copy just to rule out anything else...

I am not certain but I don't think it matters if the USB is empty but your file should reside in the root directory.

Make sure you format the usb stick a couple of times and be sure its FAT32.

I cant update it again, as the only thing the cdj shows when it starts up is the error message.. Stays that way no matter what button I press.

As both CDJs have this message, and it appeared straight after I updated the firmware on both of them, the only logical explanation is that something mustve gone wrong when updating the firmware and that this isnt a hardware issue. It would be impossible that exactly the same thing broke on the inside of both machines at the exact same time :)

Is there any way to try to update the firmware again (besides pressing the USB and reloop button when starting up, as this doesnt work), or to install the original firmware?

As i said above, when I installed the firmware update, instead of showing version 1.13 it just said "version " - so seems like no firmware is installed on the devices..

Hope someone can help! Thanks

Thanks for getting back to me Pulse.

However, as mentioned before, there is nothing I can do with the devices at the moment. When I turn them on, it goes straight to the error message, even if I hold the USB and Reloop exit buttons down when turning on the deck.

Also, I downloaded the firmware on Chrome and the UPD file was downloaded to the root of the USB device..

Hey, I do not understand why you do it on both devices before you tried it? Find a 1-2GB memory stick format it to FAT32, copy your latest downloaded from the official site CDJ350.UPD called firmwire unzipped file. You turn on the CD player to hold the SOURCE SELECT USB+ RELOOP button after put memo stick in. Try to be inserted memory stick with motive. If this fails, I think it should be changed to the main board. Or look for an electronics guru, if you can do something about it. best regards András.

@Josh > Does the firmware update in the players at all?

If you're on Mac, it could be your USB drives were not formatted MBR - watch this video.

Nothing worked, as I said I couldn't get it switched on without the error message coming up. I've had to send it back to get it fixed, they said that it looks like the firmware was wiped from the devices. Need to get the main boards replaced as not even Pioneer knew how to fix it.

I have just encountered the exact same problem.

Thought i would update the firmware on my 350's to 1.13 and now error code E-8709 and E-7024 are displayed.

I know that E-8709 is a communication error and E7024 is a firmware update failure error, so i'm assuming that the communication error is caused by update failure and now has me left in limbo.

Any suggestions? Is there a recovery mode i can enter into to reinstall the firmware?

Hey Luke

Not sure about error code E-7024, but E-8709 was coming up on mine every time I started up the CDJ. There was nothing I could do at home to fix it, sent it back and they said that I must have used a corrupt USB stick (which it definitely wasnt) to update the firmware, and this completely erased the firmware off the CDJ. As a result it couldn't function anymore and the only way to fix it was to replace the main board - in my case for both CDJs. Wasn't cheap

Hope this isnt whats happening to yours, and that you're able to find a solution!

Hi, all!

I have the same error in a CDJ 1000MK-3. It was playing and suddenly stopped. I looked at the display and there was the E-8709. I sent it to tech support and they couldn't fix it. The other CDJ is working normally... I need to fix this error to continue playing. Can anyone from Pioneer help us?
