Rekordbox Sync - Can't Nudge track?

Hi,

I was just wondering if there is a way to have the sync function within rekordbox not also lock (I guess quantize?) to the beat grids?

For example, when I have sync on I cannot nudge tracks because they are snapped to the beat grid. This is quite frustrating as sometimes the grid of a song isn't quite perfect on some songs.

In serato for example sync syncs the songs however when you nudge the jogwheel it moves the track. In rekordbox (well, my settings anyway) when I press sync I can no longer use the jogwheel to nudge tracks further

Any advice would be appreciated.

Using a DDJ RX.

You can fix/adjust the beat grids in Rekordbox software.

You can't manually beat match if sync is on... I think.

Turn synch off and nudge away, or just adjust your tracks.

I personally have had to adjust many, many tracks.  Once you get used

to it, it's no big deal, and very precise for your style of mixing.

Thanks for getting in touch. So you're saying in order for me to nudge a track I have too:

Turn sync off while the track is playing --> nudge until in time ---> don't turn sync back on until the other deck is playing again?

Thanks

Kind of.  Either DJ with sync off all the time, or with just your tracks

that don't sync up correctly (manually beat match)

or adjust the beat grids to match up where your mixing them to allow

sync to work for you.  There's a lot of options.

It's probably best for you to manually adjust your beat grids though

its better to keep your library organized and proper.

@Sam > I recorded a quick video nudging the right jog wheel both forward and backward while in SYNC mode on a DDJ-RX.  Please excuse the horrendous sound quality.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the video. How come when I try this I cannot do it? Is there a setting somewhere?

When I try it won't let me nudge the tracks forwards or backwards. Basically, with sync on I cannot at all move the track once it's playing.

Thanks.

Hi Mark,

I managed to work it out, not really sure what I was doing wrong but after playing with it I've sorted it. My bad. Thank you

@sam .... I checked your video. So basically on the other deck the sync has to be turned off only then we can nudge the track as shown ... (In the video - Deck A sync is off)

This may be a more primitive way but you can use the "beat jump" function within the software during performance mode - generally would want to use the "FINE" beat button (Scroll through the 5 pages of different length beat jumps).  I am using a Traktor X1 for controls (mapped it myself, hit me up if anyone wants the mapping file to just load into Rekordbox) and a Rane Rotary MP2016/XP2016 combo from a 10000 years ago (still my favorite mixer to mix on :) yes i am old).

If your mixes are so far off that the you need to nudge more then the "FINE" measure, you should not be mixing tracks :)

It is a great practice to adjust the grids though on your tracks as soon as you get them and lock the grid if you are going to be using the CDJs at live gigs cause man when you are jamming, it is definitely not to find out your grids are off when you go loop and mix - it is a disaster - I use a jump drive (synched to my rekordbox) and headphones which is an awesome way to have to go to the gig... don't need anything else.

Good luck
