First DJM purchase, nexus or nexus2?

Hi!

I just sold my DDJ-SX2 to move to a DJM. I did purchase a DJM-850 and got a faulty one from eBay which the seller ended up refunding me. So now, I have the option to pick up either the 900Nexus or the new Nexus2. I play primarily deep/tech house and use Traktor exclusively.

I see that most second hand (in excellent condition) DJM-900's are around $1400 but I can also get a new DJM-900nxs2 for $1999 from a local dealer. In your opinion, would dropping the dough for the new one be a bit over kill? Seems like the only thing truly improved is the "sound" along with the dual USB and some of the new FXs. Or should I save myself the cash and pick up the original 900.

I figured, most clubs that I play at will already have either or installed. This would be all for home use and session'ing.

Please let me know what your thoughts are !

I was a long time traktor user myself. Bought some XDJ-1000's to use as HID controllers alongside my S8 and got the pioneer bug big time. I've now ditched traktor fully and bought the DJM-900NXS2. No regrets here, it's an amazing piece of kit. Have tested it with traktor for someone and it works as you'd expect. I can't really comment on the NXS as never used one before this. This just came out and lured me at the right time. Newer means better supported going forward I guess. So if you can afford it go NXS2. A couple of reviews say just that in fact. Will you just be left wanting if you don't?

Out of interest, what are you using to control the decks/transport in traktor? (X1's?)

I'd get the nexxus2

newer, better, and soon to be the new club standard.

I went and looked at the nexxus2 set up today, cdj's, djm

it was amazing, and in my future.

Yes, I'll be using two Kontrol X1mk2's for transport. I used to have a Kontrol S8 and while I loved it, I kinda hated lugging it anywhere for gigs. I felt it was more of a novalty item instead for home and I never really got into STEMS.

Part of me feels the same about thinking about "being left out and wanting more" if I bought the regular NXS vs the new model. I have a month or so to think about it while I save up but I'm just trying to see if I can swallow that huge dollar amount lol.

Sounds to me that you're already clear on what you want and price is the clincher. If you're the kind of person that's happy swapping out kit that doesn't suit you (like you did the S8) then I think you'd always regret not getting the NXS2.

Save that little bit longer - it'll be worth it!
