DJM900NXS Audio Stopping

Hello,

I'm looking for suggestions as to why I've experienced the audio stopping from a DJM- both incidents about a year apart. Both incidents occurred in two different nightclubs.

What happens: The CDJs + DJM have been in use for a few hours already and with no warning one of the channels stops outputting audio entirely. The track is still playing on the CDJ, the LEDs on the channel are still active as normal but no audio is coming from that channel. All 3 other channels work as normal.
The faulty channel works again the next week.

I am the only person I know of that has experienced this mid-set.

  • It isn't the RCA cable as I have tested a spare one.
  • I doubt it could be the CDJs as the LEDs are still active.
  • I did not accidentally pull the channel fader down, touch the gain knob or flick the input source switch

Any suggestions of what the problem could be are appreciated!

Just speculating here, but my best guess is that it seems like there is a short occurring along the path or some type of corrosion on the circuit board–perhaps the extended use of the mixer builds up heat which creates a short in the faulty connection linked to the output of that specific channel. Since the signal from the CDJ is managing to be processed through the mixer as evident by the LED illuminating on the channel, you can at least isolate the issue. Are you able to hear the audio through the headphone cue?

Pretty sure I couldn't hear that channel through my headphones.
It happened a while ago now but that would have been one of the first things I checked.

Thanks for your thoughts, I'm just aiming to narrow down the possibilities so servicing is as cheap as possible.

This happened at two different venues.  Does this mean it happened on two different DJM's?  Or are you bringing your personal DJM to these venues and that is the unit having the issue?

Sorry I should have clarified- two different DJMs.

This decreases the likelihood that the issue is with the actual DJM's but it's still possible.  I recommend trying to replicate the problem, if possible.

Yes I understand this but I thought it may have been a known problem with many DJM900s.

Unfortunately replicating the problem is near impossible as there is no predicting when it will occur and the mixers belong to the clubs. Is the best guess something to do with a faulty connection inside the mixer?
