DMX 1 just not up to scratch.

Considering this is the first post where you're expressing your difficulty in getting the lighting to work, I'm surprised at the amount of anger when you haven't made efforts to seek assistance. Yes, there are many who have been able to make it work, myself included.

If you'd like help, I'm willing to do so. Tell me what fixtures you have and we can go from there.

I have posted before and received very generic answers that don't solve my issues, also you have no idea what anger is my friend, I have just spent over £10000 on equipment that is left very wanting and lacking. perhaps this isn't the place but after a long and very frank conversation and much apologising from customer service allow me to begin.

It was also suggested and I'm happy to do it , to travel to wherever you techies are hiding to setup and troubleshoot this as it has to be right, please call me to arrange it if possible 07592277169 Rob apparently nobody in Ruislip has the knowhow its just a call centre.

Also to anyone else please if you have solutions then post them up, if they are suggestions or you don't know this kit then please watch learn and read with the rest of us it going to be an experience :)

2x CDJ 2000NEXUS 2 firmware 8? updated last night

1x RB DMX1

Rekordbox DJ fully unlocked

latest windows 8 drivers/ ALL firewalls disabled

fully lan/linked fully av/rca linked, fully USB linked

Right now everything can see itself and functions as it should, CDJ can control laptop/Rekordbox in performance mode, Reckordbox can output directly audio channels 1 to 4 on the DJM once flicked over to Lan on control switch.

CDJ output correctly when control switch is flcked back to CD on bank 1 and 4, shows linked as 1 ad 4.

Pro link is intermittent unless all firewalls are disabled when sharing files In export mode.

Autoplay does not function whatsoever.......

"this feature is unavailable in external mixer mode" there is no way to use this at present.

now for the icing on the cake!

RB DMX1, all connected, lit up and transferring data.......... (somewhere)!

Fixtures all correctly addressed and preset..... all very lifeless .

there is absolutely no output on any fixtures, all show as receiving DMX data .

if I disconnect the interface and change over to showxpress512 everything springs into life, I was after the chauvet reliability without the aggravation of programming the scenes and chases. its not happening  right now.

Clarification -- are you trying to use everything in PERFORMANCE mode or EXPORT mode?

everything in performance mode, lighting mode doesn't show its thumbnails in export.

I can actually pre-empt the next gremlin, to use the dmx1 the pc must be running in performance................... how do you set a light show when running from the CDJ on USB ?

lets get them working first then look at this but it gives you an idea of the frustration this whole thing brings, Rekordbox is a great tool but it seems to be of very little value or use when coupled with a djm/Cdj at the moment.

Well, for starters, you can't -- the lighting mode is only available when running rekordbox dj (performance mode); it's not billed or advertised as being able to run in export mode, which is why a license for rekordbox dj is included with the RB-DMX1.

Looking at your list of fixtures, I can tell you right away that some of them won't work because they're not supported fixture types:

- Swarm
- Hyperscan
- Hurricane
- Bronco
- Starcloth

I even looked at the DMX tables to see if there was something you could "dummy" them to, but unfortunately they don't really follow traditional DMX assignments to even do that.

These fixtures should work, but you won't get the most out of them right now:

- Shadow (may work if set as a PAR, not entirely sure)
- Powerbar (should work in 4ch mode)

These fixtures will likely work and should be configured as follows:

- Beambar -> Bar
- MiniMac -> Mover

I’m starting to sound pedantic now I promise I’m not, your totally right and I said the lighting mode is in performance, you have just stated that Rekordbox and the DMX 1 will not work with the CDJ , and Rekordbox doesn’t like working with the DJM as it’s an external mixer and shuts everything down ???

So now my question is what is the point of DMX 1 and where can you actually successfully use it because from what I can see !!!

No no no -- sorry, you said:

And that's what I was answering -- there may be confusion as you can connect the CDJ to rekordbox via USB (cable) and control it that way, or connect a USB (drive) to the CDJ itself for playback without rekordbox. I had assumed when you said "CDJ on USB" you meant USB drive.

rekordbox dj can most certainly work with CDJs and a DJM for performance and playback, WITH lighting as well. When you say "shuts everything down" do you just mean that the lighting isn't working or that rekordbox crashes?

Right just to clarify my position and that of a major retailer, of the 10 DMX 1 interfaces they sold.............. they have now received 7 back and will not be ordering any more in for at least 6 months, mine is also about to be returned, I tried your recommendations Pulse and I appreciate your input, these things are just not ready, id go as far as saying they are not even fit for purpose, I expect something this shonky from china for a tenner , I can deal with that but from a major player for top dollar, really,

oh a side thought for pioneer and Rekorbox who I would have thought by now should have a grasp on what DJ'ing is all about.................. this crap wont even work on deck 2 of Rekordbox ????? did you even test it that far.......... I'm guessing not, so if you want a light show every other track and darkness for player 2 3 or 4 then by all means folks waste your money, it cant even find blue light on a basic 4 fixture light bar.

@Rob > Sorry to hear that, but yes, it certainly does work on the other decks, and with a variety of lighting fixtures - the 4 fixture bar you complain about is not officially supported as one of the 6 fixture types (yet).

It sounds to me like this (and the other returns you describe at the dealer) were more a case of expectation vs. reality, and that gap led to disappointment.

I have used it personally, and I am aware of the shortcomings in the lack of static scenes, support for fixtures (FX / lasers / atmospherics), having used other DMX software for lighting control and programming previously, but I also see the power and potential for this feature to create an ease-of-use for many DJs.

I understand that some fixture types are missing.

However, I'm very happy with my RB-DMX1, that i've just received.

It's work fine with Moving head/BAR/PAR...LED. 

For the next-update, and quickly, i would need (we would need) :

1) a specific scene when music STOP(special defaut SCENE assignement)

(and specific bank/Scene with Key/midi shortcuts)

2) For moving Head : change GOBOS ! for Spot moving head. ( just color without gobos is very frustrating)

Or a new fixture type : Moving head Spot

or a feature, that allow user to create a fixture type, and to create DMX additionnal DMX control.

Without this features, i still need to use a DMX merger, to use my old DMX Console with DB-DMX1,

However, RB-DMX1 is a good promising product. 

But make updates faster like SoundSwitch similar product. (Add the last SoundSwitch features...)

Update faster to avoid frustrated custumers that wait a lot of RB-DMX1
