Help needed please.

Hi,

I recently bought the plx500 mainly as I would be able to record my vinyl. I have the latest version of rekordbox installed on a laptop (windows).

Once the vinyl has been recorded, the sound is extremely distorted and the record seems to have recorded at the wrong speed.

I have changed the bpm range through preference and the speed issue remains and the record speed is at 33rpm. The distorted sound is still present even with the bass turned to zero on my amp, even on a new album

The turntable is calibrated with the track force and anti skate at 3. My vinyl is clean and the stylus is dust free. I just do not know what to do, as this is new to me.

Any help/advice would be really appreciated in helping me sort it out.

Thanks in advance,

Leo.

When you're recording, whereabouts on the recording level is the meter?

Hi Pulse,

The recording level knob is in the middle, and the recording level indicator is in the middle too.

I am not sure but, because the plx500 has a pre amp built in, I still use the phono sockets on my amp for the turntable  and the turntable is switched to phono. I have just switched the turntable to a line output on my amp and see if this makes a difference tomorrow when I try again to see if the distortion has been rectified.

The one thing I do not understand how this rekordbox can speed up a recording that's different from the 33rpm speed on the turntable.

Thanks.

Okay, I sorted out the issue. Using the line input I still had issues, so I connected everything to my pc and still had the distortion and bpm issue. I then increased the tracking force, tried again, and hey presto everything is fine. No distortion and bpm is recognised. vinyl sounds rather nice digitalised.

Glad you were able to get that sorted out. Sorry, I wasn't sure what you meant about the rekordbox playback being at a different speed -- do you possibly have the pitch increased on that deck within the software?

I am assuming it was because of the distortion that the bpm was not recognised. A 33rpm would playback on rekordbox at a 45rpm speed etc. No pitch adjustment was used within rekordbox at all.

Now the track force has been increased, all vinyl records and play at normal speed. I recorded a twenty yr old record yesterday, and it sounded as good as it did when I bought it back in "88".

Thanks anyway Pulse, appreciated.
