Rane MP2015 & 2 Pioneer XDJ1000mk2's...

Hi,

In the process of moving from Traktor back to Rekordbox, I own a Rane MP2015 and am buying a pair of XDJ1000mk2's in the next month or so...

I'm wondering about recording mix sets at home using Rekordbox DJ in Performance mode...

I know RBDJ has a record facility, but I'm guessing this will involve somehow running the output of the mixer back into the laptop... can this be done through a  USB connection between mixer and laptop like in Traktor, or can this only be done with a DJM mixer?

Hope that makes sense!?

Thanks in advance...

The Rane MP 2015 has two built in sound cards, you should be able to connect with a USB cable and record. Haven't tried in Performance mode but exporting to USB and recording is a breeze. I really suggest that you skip the Performance part all together, with two XDJ Mk2's and a Rane 2015 you definitely don't need it.

Yes, the flexibility of being able to play from USB and not stare at a laptop is definitely one of the main factors in moving back to Rekordbox, however, it can be nice to have access to your entire collection when playing at home, and one of the things I did love about Traktor was the simplicity of hitting record within the app. and it dropping a WAV of your finished mix back on the desktop.

I guess what I'm wondering is, whether Rekordbox will 'see' the Rane in the same way as it would a DJM mixer and work in a similar way? In other words, if I connect the mixer via USB to the laptop, will it also link the XDJ's and be able to record the mixer's output like I could in Traktor?

How did you record the mixer's output in Traktor? If you are able to route the master output back into Traktor's mix recorder, you can do the same in Rekordbox DJ.

...this is what I'm hoping will be the case!

Yes, with Traktor, I had a single USB cable running from the laptop to the mixer, and had my two D2 controllers linked-together.

If I link together the two XDJ's, will these need to be connected separately to the laptop, or will the single connection work in the same way?

@Unbroken > XDJs need to be connected directly as they don't have a "pass-through" or hub.

OK, great, thanks... so mixer connected to one deck and decks linked.. and as far as you know, is Erik correct above, that a second USB out connection back into the laptop should make the mixer's output recordable in RB?

You don't need to run a second USB connection from the mixer - just one connection is all that's needed for USB mixers (if that's what you meant).

If the mixer features an input from the mixer to the computer to return the master or a recording signal, then yes - just select that as the input source within the software.
