RB-DMX1 Moving Heads - Disappointed so far

I just got this in a few days ago.  I have hooked on 2 pocket spot Inno moving heads into it for starters.  I bet those heads move 70% of the time with no light coming out of them.  They spin, turn, and no light.  Then they will have light come on as it goes through the song.  I don't understand the heads moving that much with nothing coming from them.  The addresses have been assigned.  I am running in performance mode. The light scenes are there.  I am using the scenes that rekordbox put to the songs, and i really am disappointed so far.  I was thinking that the lights would have more of a "show".  When i run these heads in "sound / Slave" mode the heads are very active and do great.  I was hoping to see this type of show from the DMX1.  Yes,  i know i can go in and make all these changes and make my own, but honestly i just dropped 350$ to avoid working on each song and making a scene for each song.  I have (2) Gig Bar 2.0 that i hope to hook onto tonight.  I have (2) Blizzard moving head laser G to hope to get hooked up once the fixture is added.  So far its a no go for me.  I am one that will try to do my best to make it fit, but having to wait for fixture updates / adding makes it challenging.  I know there are growing pains, but for 350$ i think sound activated might be the best way for me, as cheesy as that sounds.  I was hoping to have control over the lights more.  Real time dimming, color changes, ect i thought would be available.  I was hoping for more on the fly control.  I'll keep learning the capabilities of this box, but so far disappointing.

Hi Brandon, I have played around with the RB-DMX1 a lot recently, there are a bit of scenes that have moving heads inactive, but they are typically for low intensity scenes and for scenes that solo specific fixtures like uplights.  I do though not recall the moving heads still having movement in scenes without the light present and am not sure why that would do that.  I would possibly try to set the inno spots to the simplest control (least amount of channels) and see if the results are any different.

If you did hook up the Gig Bar 2.0 Wednesday night, you most likely will be like me and disappointed at the results of the lack of control... I did see in another thread though that a solution was being worked on and am very curious to see what they come up with.

Now for where you stated "hoping to have control over the lights more", there actually is a pad lighting mode that gives you 16 pads.

Pads 1-8 gives you the option to change the lighting "mood" of the current song: cool, natural, club, etc...

and the other 8 pads which I enjoy is the option to choose a master color for all lighting scene active (only red, blue, and green currently). There is a master blackout mode. There are 2 strobe options (slow and fast). I can't remember the other two pads because I don't have rekordbox infront of me right now but that lighting pad mode does give some decent controls over your light show while live.

I hope I gave some useful info,

Austin,

thanks for the input on this.  Yeah i did hook up the gigbar on weds night, forsure disappointed.  I have 6 prom dances coming up and just don't have the time to mess with changing the scenes to more active scene so the moving heads work more.  Way to much music in my library to do that at this point.  The pad option seems pretty cool though.  Is that built into Rekordbox or is that a seperate piece of hardware?

I would be interested in learning more about that.  But for now, im sending the unit back.  I have had good luck with the sound activation for proms and small events, as lame as the sound thing can be, i'll wait for this unit to develop more.  Its a great idea, but with it being new the growing pains and waiting for lights to be added just doesn't fit my calendar right now with dances.  I do like the concept and am excited to see it grow, just right now its to early to adopt and deal with the growing pains.  I do plan on purchasing again maybe in 6-8 months.  Maybe i'll stuff the unit in a box and wait for things to get ironed out.  I really hope to have a better light show with this unit and really stand out more.  I have 2 gigbars that i would love to be able to hook up on the truss and operate better than sound.  I just really dont want to have to go through each song and change from cool to hot upbeat music so my lights will jam.  We shall see.  I'll keep an eye out.

Thanks again!  your info was helpful forsure
