Using rekordbox on two computers

If you have moved your files to a different location and want to mass relocate, it is highly recommended to keep the subfolder structure you had before. Hope you just moved the one folder hosting all subfolders.

Did you used 'manage missing tracks'? This should highlight all missing tracks in a pop up window. Keep all files selected (ctrl-A) and scroll to the top of the list. Relocate the first track in the list and find it in the new location you moved the tracks to. Rekordbox will search the entire structure to find the other tracks missing.

If you haven't changed your subfolders it will find all missing tracks and relocate.

Yes the folder structure is EXACT the same, it is a copy. That's is why i am confused, file management wise it is sound.

Ok seem to be getting somewhere, in one go 902 tracks from 915 relocated. I have to do 13 manually although they are in the same structure. Anyhow 13 is ok, thanks!!!

Did you rename those 13 maybe? Ther must have been something else changed why rekordbos haven't found them.

Anyway. 13 is not too bad. Easy task.

I was able to find the problem with most of these 13 tracks, as it seems now i can easily switch between the two computers. Very happy. You see, proper file management pays off :) 

I think i will use one external drive for this, this seems to work pretty well. My only concern is if i lose the external drive. I will check the back up function how this works

Ok final check delated some duplicates. Now 907 tracks will relink in about 20 seconds. No errors anymore, back and forward between the two computers with out any problem!

Just as a recommendation in regards to Backup.

Rekordbox got a backup function which will ask you to either include or exclude the music files into the backup.

I am doing this without the files because it is faster to backup and restore it. The music files I am backing up separately. They might not change that often.
The rekordbox backup I do more often. The music files only when adding / changing tracks. In that case I need to backup the changed tracks only.

In the event I need to restore it, I am restoring my music files first and afterwards restore the rekordbox backup. This brings back the database with all the analysed data and cues etc.

I did that already when moving to another computer or to keep 2 computers in sync. I am not using an external drive for the music files for some reasons. Backing up and restore the database only without the music files, for me is the best way to keep the 2 computers in sync.

Thanks Frank! Yes this was what I was thinking, doing a back-up data base only. I understand the reasons for not working with an external drive, but as how I see it It will work very easy for me. I think I will buy a good SSD drive and keep the data base and the music there. I this way I will never have to relocate the music and move the data base. I just need to take care of a proper back-up strategy.
