I am very much interested in the DDJ-RR and need clarification before purchasing. I'm a mobile wedding DJ and really only need 2 channels however occasionally I like to slip in some music from my cell phone or a CD player. Will this unit allow me to use Rekordbox from my laptop but then flip the slide switches on the top of the unit to engage the external devices? If it does I won't have to purchase a 4 channel controller.
Yes; the RR uses 2 sets of controls for 4 channels of audio. The hardware all works on a "latch" type control, so when you move the fader when it's assigned to channel 3, it doesn't affect channel 1. But in order to then move channel 1 when you switch back, you need to move the fader to the position where the hardware was last in order to "pick up" the fader value to then make any changes.

Yes, it can. You can connect your smartphone via RCA-3.5Jack & play it throught 3-4 channel.
Can the CD player be hooked up at the same time as well and be selective between it and the cell phone while still viewing Rekord box on your laptop with songs ready to go on deck 1 & 2?
Pretty sure it will be selective between decks 1/3 and 2/4
