XDJ-RR crossfading curve

Are there any plans on fixing the curve of the crossfader in the first update? I like a nice, gradual fade in/out and the settings don’t allow this. I believe a crossfader shouldn’t lose ANY sound until after the fader passes centre. My fader on my DJM-700 is a perfect example of what a crossfader should do...real gradual fade in of “b” while “a” doesn’t start fading out until after centre. I have changed the curve at the front of unit and changed settings in utility for channel fader curve. I can hear the differences but it is nowhere near close to acting like a true crossfader should. I’m afraid I’m going to have to adapt my mixing style to this new system after using a crossfader for the last 25 years

@Jamie > Sorry to hear the crossfader curves don't match your preferred curve. For your reference, there's no such thing as a "true crossfader" curve, as virtually every piece of DJ kit out there with a crossfader has a unique curve.

As an entry-level unit, the XDJ-RR only features 2 different cross fader curves, plus "thru"; Constant Power, and Sharp Cut. In Constant Power, the curve is such that at the mid-point of the fader, the level from each channel would sum to have the same output level as one single channel by itself at either end of the fader - in other words, the combined signal from both channels should sum to the same level across the travel of the fader. The Sharp Cut curve is designed for full power from both when the fader is not at the extremes of the travel, intended for a quick and hard cut in for scratching.

Unfortunately there's not much else you can do to adjust the curves, either in the software or hardware.

I've had the same experience. 20+ years using all kinds of faders then this thing comes along and when you move the crossfader dead in the middle there is a definite and noticeable drop in volume. Sounds bad live and even worse in recordings. What your saying is as an $1800(!) "entry level" unit has a below par builtin mixer that is not up to it... Sad, wish I knew that before shelling out my hard earned... Guess I should go back to my $600 mixer used for the last 10 years that didn't have this problem and just troll expensive Pioneer shit that makes me sound and look like an amateur.

This one + EQ Kill feature makes me wanna go back to good old laptop with fully customized software. Honestly, I just came from Virtual DJ and the only thing I can conclude that Pioneer XDJ RR lack such two very important fundamental features, which makes my DJing lot of less fun.

The only thing left to try before I leave standalones is Denon Prime 2, but I doubt situation there is better.

"the level from each channel would sum to have the same output level as one single channel by itself at either end of the fader"

That is just not the case. Industry is going backwards. Frustration is huge.

Yeah, 3± years and still no fix from Pioneer. Good news is that if Pioneer ever decides to address/fix this issue I have a brand new crossfader that's never been used lol. The quality of my DJM-700 mixer compared to the XDJ-RR is beyond comparable. I can't believe they were made by the same company. I'll definitely be checking out Denon for my next all-in-one so I can enjoy mixing with a crossfader again. You would think it would be an easy fix through updated firmware but I guess Pioneer is too busy pumping out 3 new controllers every month to care about their older products or their customers who want to budget under $2000

Consumerist society. Hype is most important thing. Quality is long forgotten thing.

Well I just bought the DDJ-200 to mess around with on my laptop and tablet when I don't feel like busting out my XDJ-RR and I have to say, the crossfader is so much better (normal). I forgot how much more I enjoy mixing with a crossfader vs. the channel faders. I'm sure the RR is close to becoming extinct but if there's any way Pioneer could release one final update to rectify this blunder, it would be much appreciated. Kind of sad I prefer an entry-level controller over the one I paid 8 times more for!

Looking through Pioneerdj forums and it looks like there's many more upset owners of the rx-2 and rx-3 with the same issue. This was clearly a mistake by Pioneer and they refuse to fix it through firmware. Their original response to my question was that the XDJ-RR was "entry-level". Glad I didn't pay hundreds more for the same problem
