Hey Daniel,
I'm not sure I'm understanding what you mean by "clapping." Do you mean clipping, as in distorted sound?
Hi,
i am using my DDJ 400 and a MacBook Air (13).
After a while Rekordbox start „clipping“ when i mixed 2 Heavy basslines (Drum and Bass) together...
everthing is green/yellow nothing is in red!
When i take 1 Tune out, it is gone....
I dont know what is going on... i checked allready my Settings and Set back some of them.
When i Record something it is the same.
When i listen with my headphones it is worst...
When i put my headphones in2 the MacBook it is the same.
When i Check the Tune in ITunes it is ok, no clipping!?
Thx 4 Feedback

Hey Daniel,

Sorry clipping
If mixing two DnB basslines together isn't causing your meter to red line, then it sounds like there is a limiter function that has been enabled. Typically mixing two hot signals with tons of low end will result in a very hot output, so the fact that it's not going beyond yelling is hinting that there's something going on to prevent that. Chances are the distorted sound you're hearing is the result of the limiter going crazy trying to "squash" the signal to keep it from going over 0dbs.
Check your device settings in Preferences and disable any option related to limiter. I also prefer to disable any auto gain options as well.
If I may make a suggestion (and please disregard the following if you're already familiar) once you've done all the above steps, try to set the gain for each channel on your mixer to that you're only hitting "yellow" at the very peak part of the track playing. Also, when mixing DnB or any heavy bass genres, trying to mix two tracks with the basslines is more often than not going to create a cluttered, overpowering mix–this will cause clipping for the output and the recording/headphones/etc. Try cutting the Low EQ on one of those channels to help balance the mix and keep your output from clipping. When I'm mixing DnB I like to cut the bass (between 7 and 9 o'clock) on the playing track and then bring in the new track with the bass fully engaged (or vice versa). This is especially helpful when going for a double drop of Andy C triple drop special. :-) If you are insisting on having both basslines play simultaneously, cut the Low EQ knob on both channels by 50-75% to keep your levels under control. Also, keep in mind that two basslines that occupy the same frequency will "cancel" one another out.
Cheers,
THX 4 your Feedback, i think it was a limiter problem.
I turned the Headroom vol. down -12db.
Autogain is still activ. The sound is perfekt 👌
But now some tunes are very loud.
I checked the level (BeatGrid-Modus) and turned it down also, then i shut down the lock. But every time i loud the same Tune again , i turned down before, in2 the deck. It is the same vol. then it was before.
Example: Tune 1 is on 1 o‘clock (eq) and Tune 2 is on 9 o’clock and they are same...? I reduced both -6db
THX again, greetz Daniel
I am going nuts... after mixing about 12min the same problem „clipping“
Then i switched off the autogain.... same problem!
Everything is in „green“!? and it is still clipping... 😤😭😢
every time i change the setting it is good 4 a while and then the same problem again or a different 1 is killing me! 😤🥺
Thx 4 help.....
Have you tried setting the headroom to 0dB? Also, are you currently using the latest version of Rekordbox?
This is certainly not the intended behavior or the hardware/software, especially if you've already disabled the limiter/auto-gain function. It sounds like there's something else going on under the hood. If the headroom adjustment doesn't make a difference and you're using the current version of Rekordbox, I'll have to defer to Pioneer and suggest you fill out a support ticket.
Despite what you may read on the forums, Pioneer support is actually quite good and thorough. I would suggest creating a video if possible of what's happening, that tends to be the most effective means of communicating exactly what the problem is. If you can't, then be as detailed as possible and be sure to include as much information as you can.
Cheers.
One more thing: what is your audio buffer and sample rate set to in Rekordbox?
0dB is worst then before... clipping all over...
I am using the new Rekordbox version...
Audio buffer 416 (9,4ms)
44100 Hz
Is it possible that i am doing something wrong when i use the beatgrid function?
I bought my ddj 400 and Rekordbox in march and @ the beginning everything worked fine, since i am using the beatgrid function it is not!!?
Thx 4 your Support.
My english is not on point, sorry 4 that, like my Rekordbox 😂😂😂
Greetz Daniel
I think the audio buffer was the issue....
I put it up2 (13,1ms) and the clipping is gone!? So far!!!!
Thanks 4 your help!!! 👍🥳🥳🥳🔥🙏🏻
Yeah, 416 is way too high for a buffer setting, glad you were able to get it sorted.
Quick tip: Ideal buffer settings are 64, 128 or 256. It's based on the strength of your CPU. Glad you were able to find your solution.
Cheers.
