Rekordbox and Ableton

Hello.

I have a DJM 250 MK2 and DVS set up.

I want to record some scratching while my Ableton composition is playing.

My problem is that when both programmes are running one or the other does not work.

I have an Alesis i/o 2 sound card and a laptop.

Is there a way to have both prorammes running and record into Ableton?

This video basically shows what I want to do.

Record the analog audio output from your mixer into the input of the sound card. Within Ableton, be sure to select the Alesis sound card as your primary audio interface.

Another option: just record your scratching within Rekordbox and then import the file into Ableton for editing. Just be sure to select a lossless file format so no file compression is applied to the rendered file.

@Oliver > It really depends how you have your audio devices configured; they can't be shared, so that may be where your conflict occurs.

I want to record digital scratching. It would be fine to just record the scratch and export it, but I can't get both programs running.
If rekordbox uses the built in sound card from the DJM 250 MK2. What audio device do I use for ableton. The alesis?
Do I need one USB cable from the DJM into the laptop for rekordbox and one from the sound card for ableton?

Why not record within rekordbox? It won't record the Ableton audio, but then you don't need to configure anything odd.

If you wanted to combine the audio, you can either virtually connect the audio output from the DJM to the input on the Alesis (you'll need 3rd party software for that), or you can use cables, but then you're going digital > analog > digital.

"Why not record within rekordbox?"

Yeah. That's kind of what I'm trying to do.

Play a song in Ableton.

Record my scratch in Rekordbox.

Export to Ableton and edit it if needed.

Thing is. Ableton and Rekord box wont work at the same time.

This what I have at the moment:

Ableton: Driver type: ASIO. Audio type: ASIO4ALL V2

Rekordbox: Audio DJM-250MK2 ASIO. (Not sure about driver)

Rekord box works when there is no audio type in Ableton and visa versa. They won't work at the same time.....

If I change the Audio divice in Ableton to the DJM.... Ableton works but not Rekordbox.

The guy in the video has both programs running. It must be possible. I just need an idiots step by step setup guide.....

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Alternatively, is there a third party program that lets me record from Rekordbox into Ableton so I can loop beat juggling etc?
