XDJ-RX2 Phono input problems

Tonight both of my turntables sounded *really* distorted when played through my Pioneer XDJ-RX2. The levels were way into the red. Trim knobs were in the usual spot. Same with the master trim knob.

It happens both through headphones and near field speakers.
It happens when I play different records on both turntables.
It happens after tone arm balancing and anti skate reset on both turntables.
It happens after swapping turntable cartridge locations.
It happens after swapping cord input locations.
I confirmed the cords are in the right spot.

Any ideas?

"The levels were way into the red."

Why? That's a pretty easy way to tell when your audio is going to sound distorted.

That is one of the issues I can't explain and I've never seen it happen. They should not be that high especially when the trim knobs are at about the 10 o'clock position. I make every effort to keep levels in the green. If I turn the knobs way lower than usual then the levels come down but the sound is still awful.

Are you possibly using a turntable that has a pre-amp in it, capable of sending LINE level output? If you connect that to a phono input you'll certainly get distortion at low gain levels (even if it doesn't go into the red).

I went to the store where I bought my controller and they mentioned the same thing. Then I read this. Yes! That is exactly what it was. I forgot those buttons were there and they must have been switched over in the case durning transportation from the bar. Thanks for getting back to me with this!
