FX/Midimap assignment import/export question

Pretty basic question here...
Coincidentally setup a new laptop yesterday with a bit more RAM as my RZX was struggling to function on 4gb (use XDJ-RR and XP1 for gigs, this is just at home). Went to install rekordbox and encountered Vers. 6.
So now...how can I easily transfer FX PAD assignments, midi maps and XP1 pad assignments from old laptop and rekordbox 5 to new laptop and rekordbox 6? Where is the location of the file containing this info I presume it is easy to copy over...
Thanks!

Hey Nick,

In the case that you're looking to move all your settings as well, here's the best way to do it:

1) Backup your rekordbox collection on the old computer.

2) Copy that backup zip and the following files from the old computer to the new computer:

browseSetting.xml
FxUnitSettings.xml
KeyMappings (folder)
LightingDB (folder -- if you use lighting)
pad (folder)
PadFxSettings.xml
PlaySettings.xml
rekordbox3.settings
SamplerSettings1.xml
VideoSettings.xml

These can be found in:

Win 7/8/10:
C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Pioneer\rekordbox

OSX:
/Users/yourusername/Library/Application Support/Pioneer/rekordbox

You can overwrite the existing files on the new computer.

3) DO NOT LAUNCH rekordbox on the new computer yet!

You'll need to go into the rekordbox3.settings file and edit the following lines (these are Mac, so just look for the start value name pair):

<VALUE name="VisualizerDeck1Path" val="/Users/yourusername/Movies/PioneerDJ"/>
<VALUE name="VisualizerDeck2Path" val="/Users/yourusername/Movies/PioneerDJ"/><VALUE name="pioneerDirectory" val="/Users/yourusername/Library/Pioneer/rekordbox"/>
<VALUE name="itunesLibraryFile" val="/Users/yourusername/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music Library.xml"/>
<VALUE name="bridgeImportedLibraryFile" val="/Users/yourusername/Library/Pioneer/rekordbox/rekordbox.xml"/>
<VALUE name="masterDbDirectory" val="/Users/yourusername/Library/Pioneer/rekordbox"/>
<VALUE name="SamplerSaveDirectory" val="/Users/yourusername/Music/PioneerDJ/Sampler/Capture"/>
<VALUE name="RecordSaveDirectory" val="/Users/yourusername/Music/PioneerDJ/Recording"/>

Anywhere you see YOURUSERNAME above, will be the username path from the old computer; replace it with the appropriate value from your new computer. If you don't have all of these, don't worry.

IMPORTANT! If you are on a Mac making these edits you'll likely be doing them in the TextEdit app; open the preferences and disable Smart Quotes otherwise it will break your settings file.

4) Launch rekordbox, import the library from the zip file (don't unzip it). If you're running rekordbox 6, it will ask to convert it.

That should be it! Let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for the reply.

After I asked the question I was fiddling around and remembered the export buttons at bottom right of midi and pad screens. Exported to .CSV files. Tried to backup to external to transfer. Kept failing. Instead copied folders over. Started re-analysis on new laptop with RB6.

I was then looking for way to import .XML file I exported of collection (the quicker smaller option under backup library in File menu). I figured this would contain backup of settings and cue points, history and playlists etc. (History I use a lot to go back and repeat routines I did on the fly live)

While waiting, I tried Backing up library to native harddrive of first laptop on the off chance and that is now working. I have a rekrbox_bak folder and rekordbox-bak.zip file. I am currently restoring that into new laptop and RB6 from external laptop (I didn't copy zip to new laptop). I planned to delete all the stuff that is now being analysed to prevent duplicates. The folder layout will be the same however the directory they are in will be different. In fact, some will not match as they have been dumped on desktop and imported as playlists...hmm will see what happens... I probably didn't include those in the initial transfer.

So to summarise, I did launch rekordbox 6 before doing what you said above. What are the implications....? Also I still have my ideal preferences and everything still intact on old laptop with rekordbox 5 if I wanted to start this whole process again from scratch...

Thank you

When I said external laptop earlier...I meant I backed up onto old laptop, then copied backup to external hard drive, then am restoring now from external harddrive to new laptop. Backup files remain on external harddrive but would like collection to be on laptop hard drive. For added complication, laptop has 250gb ssd with rekordbox installed AND 500gb HDD where I planned on storing collection.

Along with history and playlists it would also be essential to preserve linked tracks data (tracks that have been manually labeled that they go well together)

Now the restore has finished.

I believe I now have a copy of my collection on the SSD from the restore with playlists and analysis done. Also a copy on the HDD which I copied on manually and is about 4% through analysis. So a copy of the tracks where I want them (but the playlist files and sampler assignments and data essentially intact but all referring to destinations of files on SSD where I don't want them). In which case would the text edit of rekordbox3 file be a step to tackle this? Or is that file a different one because I launched rb6 before copying it over?

Just do a relocation on the missing songs and that should fix the rest!

But its not that straight forward...

The Rekordbox 6 program is on C: Drive (the SSD which is 250GB)

The collection with Cue points, playlist associations etc is on C: Drive

The collection is also on E: Drive (HDD 500GB - where I want it) But this has no Cue points saved.

I experimented by moving and replacing a folder from C: to E:

Both versions of the file in collection could no longer be found.

So I relocated these files in Rekordbox and the cue points were preserved.

HOWEVER, I can't do this for the rest of the 20,000 files individually!

The files cannot be automatically relocated because it only searches for them on the C: drive!

What if i relocated my rekordbox6 install to the E: drive? This would not be ideal as  I would like the program to run off the SSD C: but the music to exist on the higher capacity dedicated HDD music drive E:.....

So I started again, installed RB6 on E:, edited settings file, (which was in app data in \users on C: drive possibly left from last install) Playlists and cues and fx and midi maps worked. Had to carry out a couple of missing files searches and relocations - after I found the advanced tab in preferences and changed search criteria for autorelocate. Noticed can change the master database location from C: drive to E: , tried that. Does this correspond with the Masterdatabase allocation in the settings text file? Anyway, things were looking dandy until i tried to play a tune on RZX. Wouldnt load waveform, played track but froze up. Had this issue before so updated HP graphics drivers with new Intel drivers which worked last time.Didn't work.

Uninstalled RB6. Deleted Appdata in /Users. Started again. On new install there was no Appdata created in /users to carry out the edit of rekordbox3.settings or copy over pad folders etc. Started install. It was different from last time, didnt get the same message about restoring straight away. It opened up blank (music files are still sat on E: drive). Appdata was then created on C:. I may have settings changed text file this time to point to appdata on E: drive as i wanted database to be created there... it has created a folder path but no files in it now. I think they were there at some point but during this following process they are back on C: I'm confusing myself. Currently restoring from backup zip. I think i need clarification on whether i can have appdata and program install happily on E:. I'm trying to work out whats going on through long laborious repetitions of processes but it isnt straight forward. Does this make sense?

Also I hope it works ok with RZX after this restore. That is my main issue now as I think I have worked out in my head maybe what is going on with the database files...but like I say, confirmation and clarification from you guys would be helpful
