XDJ RX2 Deck 2 not loading properly in MIDI mode

When I try to use the second deck in MIDI mode using rekordbox (v5.8.5), one of two malfunctions occurs:

1. The selected deck 2 track in rekordbox is not picked up by the machine at all - no reading on the channel level indicator, no sound when adjusting channel fader; or

2. The selected deck 2 track plays, but the channel exposure is determined by the channel 1 channel fader - still no reading on the channel level indicator

Stranger still is that the unit did not pick up any USB drives in update mode when I tried to refresh the firmware.

The firmware update issue is separate from the audio issues; let's start there and make sure you're updated. First, format the USB drive to FAT (FAT32) with Master Boot Record. Then unzip the firmware to the root of the USB drive making sure no other firmware files exist. Also, if you downloaded the firmware with Safari, it may have corrupted the download on auto-unzip, so try another browser.

As for the audio, did it ever work before? If not, and you're on a Mac, you probably didn't install the drivers properly. Follow these instructions and uninstall / reinstall.

Also, check which mixer mode you have set in the RX2 utility menu on the hardware itself.

Thanks - was able to fix the product firmware issue.

I'm using Windows 10 - was able to use MIDI before just fine. I've been DJing with USBs exclusively for the past few weeks - setting the mixer mode from XDJ-RX2 to MIDI Control seems to have fixed the playback issue.

For my benefit, is there an online resource that explains how these modes differ in terms of functionality? Or is there an explanation in the manual? Thanks again.

Easy...

1) Stand-alone mode; you're using the RX2 without a computer. You prepare your music in rekordbox, export the songs / playlists to a USB drive, connect it to the XDJ and play your music.

2) Export mode; rekordbox acts as a "smart hard drive" allowing you to access the music in your collection from the computer or the XDJ itself. All the mixing and audio work is done in the unit itself.

3) Performance mode; rekordbox is not only the collection, but also the engine doing the mixing - the XDJ is just a controller making it happen, and the audio interface to send the music from.

Let us know if you have any other questions.
