External 1TB HDD not work properly on CDJ850

Hi guys! I need your help with this problem!

I bought an external HDD: Seagate 1TB expansion Portable 3.0. I formatted it with HP Partition Wizard as FAT32. Copied 25gb of music (almost 700 tracks) in a folder structure.

Everything work normal when i enter RANDOMLY in my first 3 or 4 folders. But after that when i enter in any folder it's shows me that it's empty.

I can't find why is working just fine for my 3/4 folders and after that ...not.

Did you use rekordbox to analyze your music, create the folders and then export them to your drive?

No, i don't want to use rekordbox because i have a complex folder structure and i change my tracks inside those folders quite often and because of that i must update all my playlists from rekordbox. its not very pleasant to do that. (It would be very useful if you could directly import an entire folder/subfolders as a "folder playlist" and replicate their structure as playlists/folders)
I use rekordbox just for preparing small playlists before a gig.

I also tried with a 500GB Adata hv610 hard drive. And it's not working at all (even with rekordbox). and yes i formated fat32 with AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard Edition & MiniTool Partition Wizard Free.

I have two 32gb usb drives and those work flawless. (with or without rekordbox)

So what could be the problem ? The hard drives ? or the pioneer unit ?
Thanks!

As this is happening with multiple drives, my guess is that the problem is with your folder structure.  The CDJ-850 can only read 8 layers of folders.  Files in folders beyond the 8th level can not be played.

I don't think that's the problem beacause i have only 3 layers of folders.

I've tried to export a small playlist from rekordbox to my hard drive. It doesn't work at all: "Error E 8306, Not Loaded".

The same playlist work perfect on my 32gb USB drive.

No :(. Maximum 200 tracks. Most of my subfolders have less than 100.
I really do not know what to do.

It could certainly be there's a problem with the partition / format of the drive. Perhaps try using a different tool.

- EaseUS Partition Master
- AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard Edition

- MiniTool Partition Wizard Free

This are the tools i used.
If we can not solve the problem at least I just want to know what HDD to buy. I want a similar one with this model (slim and 1tb)

Have you ensured that there is only one partition on it and all of the default Seagate software removed?

Does the total path + file name length when in the 3rd folder exceed 256 characters total?

No, but this does not explain why it works for my first 3/4 RANDOM folders and after that not. and also it not explain why my playlists don't work at all. Also the same folder structure & playlists works perfectly on my usb sticks.
I am very curious if someone with the same model of HDD managed to make it work.

My questions are:

- it's posible that my cdj have a problem with HDDs ?

- if the HDD is the problem..what are my alternatives ? if i buy a new one i'll have the certainty that will definetely work? ...I have already made a bad investment I no longer want to do another :(

Thank you very much for your support!!!

I tried to replicate this problems on a CDJ 350 and it WORKS !! (the same playlists and the folder structure)

So the problem is not the HDD...is the CDJ850 :|

I don't know what to do now....

I finally found the answer!! It's a known problem with the CDJ 850...and it's very simple: some of hard drives work, some don't. expect for that from Pioneer. i'm really disappointed.
And believe me, I searched for 2 weeks. I even went to a Pioneer Service Club. Together we made all the possible tests to conclude that.

So if you know a specific model that works please tell me!! i'm really struggling to find one that it works !!

Peace!

I posted my question everywhere on the internet (youtube videos, other forums) and I can't believe that I can't find anyone who has used an external hard drive with this CDJ :)). I feel so stupid that i bought this model.

It could also be that the CDJ wasn't providing enough power for the drive to function properly.

I just bought the same HDD like the guy above(Seagate Backup Plus Slim 3.0 2.5") but still having the same issues with CDJ850. When I just copy/paste music from explorer to HDD, my CDJs show me that after the second folder - all the rest are empty. When I export playlists from recordbox (6.5.2) my CDJs diplaying error E-83 06. HDD is formatted in FAT32 and its MBR. Anyone with other suggestions ?

Sorry, the CDJ-850 is an older player and thus more likely to have issues with USB3.x devices. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee functionality of all USB drives with our CDJs / XDJs due to compatibility issues between the USB host chipsets and the USB memory manager chipsets.

Please try using a different make / model drive.
