The problem is not with the player but rather your phone not being able to be used as a mass storage device. See this article for additional information.
HI there, very excited to be able to store my rekordbox collection on my phone, as it will save me from always leaving behind my SD card at gigs!
I've put my 128GB SD card in my phone, and it appears I can only sync it with Rekordbox by Wifi, and not by USB cable. There's also no option to Synchronise playlists, only to export them which is quite important.
I have HTC 10 and a Mac; paid version or Rekordbox. Thanks in advance for your help!

So why not with iOS then?
I'm currently playing aiff files on iPhone 7 via Traktor and iTunes.
Have to agree with Dan. It's a non issue with any other Android Sync App, for example iSyncr/iTunes, SyncMate, or Android File Transfer.
My understanding from the article you posted is that is that Mass Storage Device is old technology, and that protocols like MTP are for "modern devices"?
So after a fair bit of work I have my HTC10 now running as an MTP device on Mac, using the following repo:

HTC10 is showing up on Finder fine, I can see all subdirectories etc.
However, nothing is showing in Rekordbox. Can you please advise?
I'd be happy to go as far as exporting to a temp directory or mock drive (if I can get RekordBox to do that), then copy everything across to my phone if need be.
Am really hoping to be able to ditch my current sync programs (iSyncr/iTunes) and use only Rekordbox. Then I could listen & rate new tracks on the go, arrange the "keepers" into the appropriate Rekordbox playlist, without having to Sync back to my computer, then export to SD Card. I also wouldn't need to take a separate SD Card to gigs (and lose it)!
