Library Issue

as i have been bringing in some of my old remixes from the past that I have on cd, I have been noticing that I have been having library problems.  After I rip the tracks that I want off the disc rename and move to there permanent place on my hd I will bring them into the playlist and let them analyze and then I mess with grid and hotcues at that point, locking them once I'm done.  however when I come back to them later on these tracks will have to be relocated.  so I perform relocation of the tracks and check them to make sure nothing is wrong with them.  later on when I open rekordbox back up, I'm having to continue to relocate the files.

On another issue with library, back before I was able to get audiograbber back on my laptop, I was having to use windows media player.  when i used this program to rip the cd's it was even worse.  I would take them from the folder that it created cut them and paste them to the folders where they were supposed to go for their place on hd and then when done with the normal things in rekordbox i would go back to some of these files being moved back to their original folder that the songs got ripped into, totally renamed and I'm having to do the work again.

If anyone has any clue on this please let me know, thanks!

I'm going to write this out step-by-step just to confirm that I understand the process you're taking:

  • you rip a CD using whatever software (not relevant)
  • you rename the files and move them to a folder where they will presumably stay
  • you import the tracks to rekordbox, analyse, adjust beat grid, add hot cues / cues etc., you then lock the file
  • you close rekordbox
  • at a later time, you re-open rekordbox and the files do not play; they show as missing

Is that correct? Is there anything else missing from the steps above that might be relevant to the situation?

Here are some additional questions for you:

  • Are you putting the files on an external hard drive?
  • What application are you using to rename / manage your files?
  • Are you using iTunes at all?
  • What are the filetypes?
  • What version of rekordbox are you using?
  • Which operating system version?
