DDJ-SZ : Failed to connect audio

I'm trying to use my DDJ-SZ with the latest version of Serato, and the latest firmware update on the SZ. However I get the message "No compatible DJ device detected". When I load Serato and then turn the SZ on, it does the think where all the lights flicker around like it's connecting and then the 2 serato decks appear on screen for a split second, then I get the "Error: Failed to Connect Audio" message at the bottom of the screen.

I've already tried setting the Audio and Recording devices on the laptop to their default settings. I've also tried 2 cables, in all the USB ports.

As a side note, the computer itself recognises the controller, when I turn it on I get the Windows "Device connected" noise, and it shows up in the drivers and in the device manager.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hello Sameh,

Which computer OS and its version do you use?

Also, we would like to know the driver version you already installed.

For Windows10:

From Start Menu > P > Pioneer and run "DDJ-SZ Setting Utility."

For Windows 8.1:

From Start Menu > Start > Apps > Pioneer and run "DDJ-SZ Setting Utility".

For Windows7:

From Start Menu > All Programs > Pioneer > DDJ-SZ and run "DDJ-SZ Setting Utility".

Open "About" tab in DDJ-SZ Settings Utility and check the Driver version shown there.

The correct driver version is:

For Windows 10: 1.110

Windows 7 and 8.1: 1.103

The latest firmware version: 1.20

If the versions shown in the Settings Utility is not the correct ones, please uninstall the current one and install the correct version.

Thanks,

CRM, Pioneer DJ

Are you on the Windows 10 Creator's Edition?

When the device fails to load, have you checked in the device manager to see if it's listed with a yellow exclamation mark?

That I have to check I will get back to you if it's the creators edition. when it fails to load and I go into device manager there's not yellow sign that suggests the driver is corrupt. when it keeps trying to retry serato stops responding I plug out the Ddjsz and serato stills try to reconnect. I tried different USB wires including all the other USB ports. i tried a fresh install before installing serato Windows find the drivers for the sz when plugged in but when opening serato still says audio connection error retrying. I tried installing drivers through serato samething downloaded from your site and install manually samething

update- yes it is the creators edition I updated over the weekend hoping it will help I'm on Windows 10 build 1703

So I seem to figure out the problem within my sound settings the Ddjsz was set as default device when I switched it back boom both channels show up and the Ddjsz finally connects. But now the head scratcher comes in every time I restart my computer I have to do that before the ddjsz can connect why is that ? very Weird!

That sounds like Windows was trying to use the device, but the drivers can only be used by one application at a time. I would go and assign your main windows audio device (the built-in soundcard) as the default device, that way it can't try and grab the SZ as the primary device.

Yea I did that but every time I restart the computer I have to set it as default device or the Ddjsz will not connect. wondering why is that?

Well I have windows 7 and when I opened DDJ-SZ service utility I got windows 7 : 1.103
The latest firmware version : ***.
Also I tried to push the sync + cue buttons with clicking on the power button to load the master's led light but that was really useless.
Any help would be highly appreciated

@Sameh > I think your problem is likely due to a driver signing error - this happened back with Windows 7 if you haven't got the operating system fully updated to have the latest driver signature database. When Pioneer DJ separated from Pioneer Electronics, all of our drivers had to be re-certified with Microsoft, so as a result, the old registry reads "Pioneer Electronics" but the driver files read "Pioneer DJ," and they wouldn't match when installing so authentication conflicts could arise. Please try updating Windows to include all service patches and updates, then reinstall the DDJ-SZ drivers.

@Sameh > The product team has provided the following information:

It looks like the DDJ-SZ may not be properly connected to he computer.

Please check if you can see DDJ-SZ in the About tab in DDJ-SZ Setting Utility

Next, follow all the steps in "Operation" in page 11 of DDJ-SZ Operating Instructions.

@Junior > Requested a follow-up, but seems like it could be a problem within your Windows registry.

Do you have the SZ powered-on and connected when you boot up Windows?

Try having it connected and powered-on when you boot the computer to see how Windows reacts with its defaults.

@Junior > The engineer team has asked you for the following:

・Computer Make and model details

Installed software:
・Music playing software
・DAW software

Any other music related software names or audio drivers / device.

Please attach the screenshot of the Audio list from Preferences > Audio in Export mode in rekordbox (open the drop-down box to show all devices).

I recently just bought the new razer blade pro 2017 running Windows creators edition version 1703. Only music software I have installed is fl studios and serato DJ. I don't use rekordbox so the last statement I'm not sure what your talking about. When I first commented I did not have fl studios installed so that shouldn't interfere with anything. only audio driver I have installed is the pioneer Ddjsz

If you could still provide information about the processor, amount of RAM, and graphics chipset, that would also help. Even having a screenshot of the rekordbox audio settings would help us know which audio system that computer uses and to identify any possible conflicts.

Processor is the i7 extreme edition overclocked to 4.9ghz 32gb of ram along with the nvidia gtx1080. this laptop is a super computer man everything should run flawless just trouble with the 2 sound card clashing. again I don't use rekordbox so I wouldn't know where to go into the audio settings. I can take a screen shot of my device manager under audio games and controller?

@dj kenz in my case I had to go into my audio devices and choose serato ddjsz or otherwise it wouldn't connect it will just say error. When I do that then everything works perfect I believe it's just the sound cards that are closing in my situation.

@Junior Timeless. I was able to solve the problem. I had to uninstall the ddj sz2 entirely and reinstall it.

Help please!!

I have a DDJ SZ. Been using it for the last 3 years

A few days ago while the ddj sz was on and in use (with Virtual Dj software) the DDJ SZ was accidentally switched off.

Put it back on but since then the USB A input is not working and not recognised by the ASIO utility. Got a message like not connected. Change it to USB B and is working.

My issue is that I can't update my firmware as I can do so only when the USB Port A is in use.

So how can I get the USB Input A to work again.

Have uninstalled and re installed drivers more than once.

please help

@Stephane >  Sorry to hear that, please file an inquiry ticket here and our support team will be able to gather some additional information to assist you in resolving this issue. It says "rekordbox" but you can go through there for your SZ as well.
