DJM 750 1210 Turntables level issue

I have recently purchased a DJM750. The turntable inputs seem very loud and with the trim knobs at 12 o'clock both turntables are in the red on the meter. To get a decent level they need turning down to between 9 & 10 o'clock which gives little range to work with on the knob. They are wired correctly and fully functional and work fine on another mixer.

Anyone any ideas or come across this before?

Thanks

Paul

You don't need to have the trim knob set to 12 o'clock - it's designed for you to adjust that knob to a position where the incoming signal is at a suitable level on the channel meter.

Are you using lines 1 and 4 and have to ask, you have them set in the PHONO select and PHONO RCA right?

Hi yes, everything in the right place and set correctly. Have checked usb & line in and they are both around 0db @ 12 o'clock. Just both turntable lines are loud. Have checked with different cart & stylus but the same.

Yes but the knob is only effective upto 10 o'clock then it starts to peak. This gives the knob a range of less than 50% which isn't right.
Line and USB are fine at around 0db at 12 o clock. I have never known turntable inputs to be so much higher as they are usually quieter and require a tweak if anything. I suspect it is a design issue rather than a fault. Either way it isn't right and will cause big problems when unfamiliar djs come to use it and expect it to operate as other mixers do

@paul > Couldn't I then argue that the knob is actually more effective with a larger range, capable of providing better gain on lower input signals?

This is not a fault; the engineers received feedback from users who demanded MORE gain level, and as such, it becomes more "sensitive" and requires a lower level (less gain) for most sources. It's not a problem and simply requires your awareness of its operation. Simply providing input, and making an adjustment to the knob is all that is required to ensure that your levels are not too high, regardless of the position of the knob.

You could argue all you want but I came here for advice not an argument.

Having spent some time with my equipment and the DJM 750 I have come to the following conclusion -

The traktor channels input to the mixer quite low even though Traktor level meter is high.

My 1210 outputs are quite loud due to the Ortofon OM S120 needles. This combined with the mixers loud pre-amps produce a louder than expected output.

The result is an unusual mixer setup (turntables turned down, line in turned up). A bit of fine tuning has got it better and I can live with it now.

Hopefully this may help someone who comes across a simmilar issue in the future as you wont get far when it comes to support from Pioneer unfortunately.

@paul > I'm providing you with the answer to the question you asked. You disagreeing with the information provided is your choice.

Yes, the PC input and the phono input are at different levels; they're different sources.
