Easiest way to listen through computer?

Long story short, the easiest way for me to listen to my records is through my computer.  I want to just put on a record and play it through my speakers, but for some reason there doesn't seem to be any way to do this other than through rekord box which is shit for this purpose, and I don't want to have to pay for the license or learn the software.  I haven't even been able to get it to do this with the trial other than recording and then playing it back (I can't even seem to find a way to monitor the recording).

I also want to use this through ableton live to sample.  How tf do I do this, it doesn't seem particularly intuitive and I can't find anything that covers my seemingly simple problem.
